Pop brilliance, April 22, 2011

I am a massive Okkervil River fan (I weigh 21 stone), so am probably a bit biased. I bought the album 'The Stand Ins' on the day it came out and it proved to be far less appealing than the previous albums. Whilst eating a double Big Mac and 'diet coke' with fries, I decided to buy the single as it has a track 'Millionaire' which is not available on either of the last 2 albums and it is great.
The usual inteligent wit, elaboration and poignancy that we have come to expect from what is probably the hardest working man in show biz (the impossibly thin Will Sheff) is all here. There is also a one man version of 'Pop Lie' which is slower and more measured than the single version and I much prefer it. I can not recommend Okkervil River highly enough. They are the musical equivalent of roast swan followed by curry and chips with two whole Vienettas for dessert and I can also say if you get a chance to see them live you will not be disappointed. I will be at the bar enjoying some pork scrathings or lardy cakes (yes sadly I am on a diet).
