All Killer... No Filler,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pop Til You Drop (Audio CD)
If you're looking for the ultimate summer jam, the A-teens are your best choice. Ever since their 1998 debut, ABBA GENERATION, the A-Teens have been THE source for pure teen pop. Though US reputation isn't exactly where it should be, the A-teens are mega superstars worldwide... and they deserve it.POP TILL YOU DROP, their junior release, is the best yet. They have Britney's beats - without the sensuality, N*sync's lyrics - minus the tacky boyband charisma, and voice of their own. This album has set the A*teens apart from other bands. They open up with a great dance track, Floorfliller, slow it down a bit with songs like Can't help falling in love and hi/goodbye, Latin out with Cross My Heart, and add their own techno/80's/r&b vibe to songs like Slam, Oh Oh. Yea, and Closer to perfection. Unlike Teen Spirit, the ballads on Pop Till You Drop are uplifting. But who are the A-teens? Before this album, they were just a nameless face in the croud of "wannabe popstars". I can see this band getting a lot of mileage out of this album... if only they could get play on MTV. At least they get the help of Alice Cooper. If not this time, it's certain that the A-Teens will get the respect they deserve for this hot as summer, fresh, and youthful album.

I Won't "Drop" Anytime Soon...,
By Tom "Tom" (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pop Til You Drop (Audio CD)
I always raise my expectations more than I should for an artist's next album when their last was really good, and I thought this would be the time I learned my lesson. While not a bad album, "Pop 'Til You Drop" doesn't capture the magic that "Teen Spirit" did. There were a few songs that prompted me to take a second listen immediately: "Let Your Heart Do All The Talking" (Who'd have thought the guys could drop their voices that low?), "Closer To Perfection" (a perfectly "Euro-pop" beat that will keep the junior-high-school dance floors hopping), "Oh Oh ... Yeah" (featuring the guys singing solo, an unfortunate rarity on this album), and especially "Cross My Heart" (with what I think is a Calypso beat ... unusual for teen pop!). Where there are hits, there are also misses. "Slam" could have been (and in fact sounds like it was trying to be) a heavy-hitting pop number, but it falls flat. None of the ballads really stand out at all. But the real stinker on this album is "This Year" -- silly lyrics, a weak melody and chorus, and for some reason one of the girls sounds dreadful in this song, almost as if she were singing it against her will! Everything else I would classify as just plain "okay", including the two covers, "Can't Help Falling In Love" and "School's Out". Perhaps this album will grow on me in the coming months. ("Floorfiller" seems to be nagging at me to hum along to it, in fact.) If you like teen pop, you don't have your expectations too high, and you feel like taking a chance with your money, then you might as well give this CD a try.

Can't help falling in love with the A*Teens,
By
This review is from: Pop Til You Drop (Audio CD)
I admit that the first time I listened I was disappointed with the CD. After a few listens I can't live without it. Once you start you just can't stop. This is a great pop Cd. I am 21 years old and love all kinds of music and especially pop. This is great for any pop fan1: Floorfiller- this song makes me wanna dance. I know my roommate will be sick of this song very soon cause it's on repeat. It's a hard song to describe but my favorite part is when they say "Play that funky music". 2: Can't Help Falling in Love- A remake of an Elvis classic. The original was slower while this is more upbeat, a bit faster and easier to dance to. Also available on the "Lilo and Stitch" soundtrack 3: Let Your Heart Do All The Talking- This song reminds me of something but I don't know what it is. It's very catchy. Anyone who has a crush on someone will listen to this a lot. 4: Closer to Perfection- Classic Europop. This song is about someone making you a better person. Has a great chorus. Another fast song. 5: Hi and Goodbye- A beautiful slow song. A classic story of people who used to be close that can no longer talk to eachother. Similar to slow songs that the A*Teens have done before, but more mature. 6: This Year- An optomistic song about the expectations for the next year. I enjoy this because it's very hopeful about the future. 7: Slam- A dance song where the A*Teens try to create a dance of their own. Until there is a video it will be impossible to recreate the moves. A funkier and slower take on songs like the Macarena 8: Cross my heart- Has pipes or some other instrument that reminds me of Native American music. I think it is an amazing musical compilation. My only wish is that the song was about a different topic. 9: Singled Out- A slow song. It isn't a terribly memorable song but it is very pretty. The chorus is spectacular. The verses aren't too hot. 10: Oh, Oh... Yeah- Have you ever watch the TV show on disney about EMT's? The beat is similar to the theme song. It's a mid tempo song. I like the lyrics like "sugar ain't as sweet as you, monkey see is monkey do". That is where this song excels 11: In The Blink of An Eye: A song about think changing quickly. I like this on a lot as well. It's a slow song that is about love and the ending of love but can apply to any other situation in life. 12: School's Out- Another remake. What is great is that Alice Cooper (the original singer) sings on the track. I honestly like the A*Teens version better than the original. If you're reading this it means that you're interested in pop music and I believe you should get this CD. It's sensational!

Pop Til You Drop... Literally!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pop Til You Drop (Audio CD)
I bought this the first day it came out and I absolutely loved every minute of it. I couldn't stop listening to it, it's awesome!! All songs 5/51. Floorfiller-great song for dancing, I could listen to it 7 times in a row and not get tired of it! 2. Can't Help Falling In Love-the song I originally bought it for, best cover of this song I've heard, actually it's the only one. 3. Let Your Heart Do All The Talking-Awesome song, really like the music, and the single version is the greatest! 4. Closer To Perfection-This one sounds really cool and I don't know if you noticed but when they say "now I got it together, I'm stronger than ever" sounds like Halfway Around The World. 5. Hi And Goodbye-First ballad of the CD and guess what it's awesome... I love the chorus. 6. This Year-Cool song. I listen to it every new year. 7. Slam-this is good, my sister and my cousin made a dance to it and it was so cool 8. Cross My Heart-One of my favorites on here, Really cool South American feel and the lyrics are so cool. reminds me of Pismo or Monterey cause this CD was all I listened to when I went both places. 9. Singled Out-Cool chorus and the guitar is cool too. 10. Oh, Oh... Yeah-Another favorite. The lyrics are kinda funny but I love it. Me and my cousins made a Music video for it, it's so cool. I was Dhani, My sister was Sara (her name is sarah!), And my two cousins were Marie and Amit. 11. In the Blink Of An Eye-Awesome ballad, lyrics are so original and cool. 12. School's Out-By this time you already have popped (LOL) really great cover of Alice Cooper's. Overall this is an AWESOME CD!! Buy it. If you're into the Alanis Morisette-y, dark like brooding, I never go out into the sunshine and my life is a miserable black hole of depression kinda thing, then you'd think they'd stink, But for driving around with the top down, loving life kinda thing, they're really good! Stands above the rest of the teen pack,

While Britney and N Sync's idea of `maturing' is hiring a string of hip-hop and electronica producers to make their songs sound `funky' and `edgy' (in reality they're still boring the hell out of us, no matter how much they claim to have changed), one group is still punching out the lighthearted side of pop music. Sweden's A*Teens once again deliver upbeat and ultra-peppy teen anthems on their third release- often considered the last lifeline among pop acts. "Pop `Til You Drop" covers a wide assembly of subjects that the 18 and under crowd often encounter. From commanding everyone to just shut up and dance on "Floorfiller", to admitting your inability to resist an oncoming romance with "Can't Help Falling In Love", it's like reading through the mind of a high schooler. These Swedes seem to be damn well aware of who their music is catering to, and damn proud of it. Gliding effortlessly through sugar-coated, summer lovin' pop settings that will strike a chord with any moon-eyed teenager, the A*Teens shake a groove and spark an attitude in a way that won't make you feel like you're listening to a set of...well, for a loss of a better word, wannabes. Even if mass commercial recognition has eluded the group (outside of Sweden, anyway), it definitely hints at a possibly lengthier career than their fellow multiplatinum teen boppers. It also gives us a chance to sit back and relax instead of wondering why the hell these artists who aren't even old enough to drink take themselves so seriously.

The A*Teens are back, and better than ever. Yes, ABBA Gen. was great, and Teen Spirit was pretty well-rounded, but "Pop 'Til You Drop" truly lets the A*Teens's voices (and writing skills) shine. They've taken pop music and given most of the songs on here an edgy dance beat with vocals that kick butt.Floorfiller - Amazing dance song & I believe the next single.. be on the lookout for the video on TRL.. it's THAT good. *7/10* Can't Help Falling In Love - They've definitely made this song into there own. If you think that it's similar to Elvis's, you're extremely wrong. It's mid-tempo with a poppy kinda feelin. *7/10* Let Your Heart Do All The Talking - Filled with electronic guitars, drums, loud saxophones & trumpets.. this song is one of my faves *9/10* Closer to Perfection - Has a techno beat in the background with digital vocal effects.. very edgy sounding *8/10* Hi & Goodbye - I generally don't like ballads, but this one somehow different. It has a slow start, but once the chorus hits, it has a bit of a punch to it *8/10* This Year - Not my pick of the bunch.. the girls are kind of singing in this irritaing tone. The lyrics are great, don't get me wrong, just not the greatest vocals. *4/10* Slam - I don't even know where to begin.. this song is absolutely amazing! I mean, with the lyrics 'Everybody do the slam/just stomp your feet & clap your hands' Somebody make this into the hottest dance craze :)!! *9/10* Cross My Heart - This is my fave song on the album!! It's got the edge, vocals, beat, instruments.. it just rocks! *11/10* :) Singled Out - Again.. pretty good ballad, but stays slow thru the whole song. The guys sound so good on here! *6/10* Oh, Oh...Yeah - Very cute, summery song, "Monkey see is monkey do' & 'Hot.. like baby mid-July'.. yes, this song is hot! *8/10* In The Blink of An Eye - Very good ballad.. which Marie wrote! *7/10* School's Out - I love Alice, and was pretty surprised when I found out he was doing a song with a pop group, but none the less, the song came out amazing!I'm really interested to hear the 'harder' version of this song! :) *8/10* All in all.. it's totally worth it to buy this album. You can't miss out on this!

Can I say it? Say that 'Teen Spirit' is the second best A*Teens album. Let's just say the A*Teens put a LOT of effort in this new addition.'Floorfiller', 'Close to Perfection', and 'Slam' are the dance mixes and will make you come 'Back For More'. 'Singled Out' is probably the BEST ballad on the album--or ever. Whoa! Are these the same teens from three years ago?! The boys of the group (Amit & Dhani) really show some excellent vocals. I'm impressed. Another impressive song is 'In The Blink of An Eye', written by A*Teen Marie! Wow! What a great song. Again the boys of the group put in some great vocals. 'Cross My Heart' is a song with a latin beat. But it takes some getting used to. After awhile, you'll grow on it. The rest of the songs are the typical album fillers, and the remake of Elvis' "Can't help falling in Love" could have been done better. The girls still sing and sound like girls, but the boys sound really grown-up. Good work, guys! |
