I just recently heard about these DVDs on the Video Fitness forum, where folks were saying that these were a lot of fun. Since I've been looking to change up my workouts a bit, I thought I'd order these, and so far I like them!

The first one I used was Original Butt, and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Many of the moves remind me of the Physique 57 workouts, where you do the move with a small range of motion (one inch in either direction). Even though the title is Original Butt, you'll work your whole body with this one. My legs and arms were shaking throughout the workout. I know I didn't come close to burning the 500 calories that the DVD cover claims you will, but I got a nice toning workout from it. The instructor's form pointers were useful, and she seems to know exactly when and where you might be about to give up on an exercise. The outfits that the three women are wearing are a bit too much like lingerie, but I was prepared for this and it wasn't that distracting. The music was low-key but good. I started getting a little bored towards the end of the leg segment, but then the instructor moved on to abs/core.

My barre/ballet DVD collection consists of both Physique 57 series, Xtend Barre Lean and Chiseled, Rockin Models, the Booty Barre workouts, all of the Squeeze workouts, some Core Fusion DVDs, the original Callanetics, and the Ballet Body workouts. The Pop workouts remind me most of the P57 series in that both use similar exercises and a small range of motion. These Pop workouts add some nice variety to my DVD collection; while some of the exercises are ones I've seen in other DVDs, there are enough unique moves in this Pop set to make me glad that I purchased it.

After spending time doing Turbo Fire and Brazil Butt Lift, I wanted a workout that would be tough but still lower body based. After popping in Original Butt dvd I was so excited. Time actually flew by, the movements were intense without having to do big movements. I was sweating because you can feel the muscle being fatigued. I tried to do perfect form and so I was slightly slower than the instructors but I preferred that to moving too quickly. It was a great burn and fun. Perfect addition to my BBL and TF workouts. I can't want to do a hybrid for the other systems and it made me a fan of ballet barre workouts.

Update: Yesterday I did the Cardio Butt School dvd. It was intense but fun and moves flowed nicely from one routine to the other. The triceps section killed my arms but I could feel the burn in my thighs and butt. My muscles were definitely tighter. Today I did the Original Butt School. I felt that the pace was slightly slower (55mins instead of the 40mins from Butt School). The intensity seemed kicked up a notch as the increments and movements increased. My legs were shaking during several points in the dvd and it was difficult remembering to lift, hold, move an inch, pull in, etc. Those small details made the workout harder. All in all I fell in love with Butt School, I fell in like Original Butt, and my next update will be Hardcore.

11/12/12 Update: I did all three workouts consistently for a month and my waist decreased by 2'inches within a week of rotating the works. I focused heavily on the Hard Core and Original Butt for a solid week and half and then integrated the Cardio Butt steadily. My thighs slimmed down considerably, I dropped 5lbs, my body looked leaner and I could feel my abs tighten into stronger muscles.

Barre classes are expensive and - in my area - often scheduled during normal working hours when I can never go. I bought these based on the number of (and overall good) reviews, and haven't been disappointed.

Background: I've done Insanity and P90X, so I usually like pretty hardcore workouts. I've got into Pilates with Pop Pilates online, and I've taken Barre at Equinox in DC and some studios around Boston.

I'm starting with "The Original Butt," and I'll update as I do the rest.

***Original Butt:

1) Basics: It's almost a full hour, and you need light weights (~2lb), heavier weights (~5lb), and a chair.

2) Workout: You start with some plank work, then do shoulders and arms, then legs and butt, then abs... that is to say, it's definitely not just a butt workout. My arms were definitely the most sore thing after the first time doing this.

3) Addressing other comments:
- Someone said that they wanted more butt work, but you should be activating your glutes during the plank work, the entire legs/butt series, and also during a lot of the ab work soooo... I'd say there's plenty of booty working. Just like with anything else, if you focus on the movements and doing them properly/ activating the muscles, you'll get a lot more out of it than if you're just literally going through the motions.
- Agree with very good replacement for Barre classes. The 3 DVDs cost the same as 4 Barre classes in my area.

4) General feelings: I'll be adding this 3x/wk until I stop feeling results and step up to Cardio Butt.
