4.0 out of 5 stars The Greek finds the perfect inspiration, May 1, 2006
This review is from: The Popcorn Millionaire and Other Tales of Saugatuck (Paperback)
Here is my bias.... George Coutoumanos is my great grandfather. Many have accomplished much in our family. Yet a constant source of pride and inspiration is my Great Grandfather George. It is never lost on any of us who our mentor is . Even now he is the one who inspires us to live for the pursuit of real tangible moments in our lives .
He had already passed before I was born but his books of poetry were standard in every home in our family. He was a humble man with a great gift of beautiful visions and an even greater gift of being able to transform those visions into beautiful poems to share with all . Poems so beautiful that nothing is lost in translation from his native Greek language. My family spent many a summer in Saugatuck . George's granddaughter , my aunt , now lives in California... one thing that did make the trip with her many years ago is an original Saugatuck sign...it hangs in her house a constant memory of that wonderful place and magical man.
This is a great book and of course will be special to anyone who has ties to Saugatuck. But I think it is an interesting book for anyone. What makes the place so great , other than obvious and special beauty, were the people.. all the people. Wonderful people drawn to wonderful place... and most wonderful people are interesting and fascinating....this book tells the story of a few of them.
