I had heard the free demos of the songs on this album before going to see Strand of Oaks and Joe Pug live in St. Louis. I liked it, it was different. I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy the actual album or not. It was only after seeing the brilliant performance that night and seeing how good of a guy Timothy Showalter is that I decided to walk back and buy his album. He signed it, and I took it home.

Listening to the album, you are very much taken away. Its the sort of track listing that keeps you guessing too. It starts with West River, a synth instrumental and then moves onto the more acoustic but still synthesized songs. Each song has a tale to tell, and even though some are very different from each other they can all stand next to each other and tell a collective work of wonderful fiction.

Strand of Oaks, Timothy Showalter, you have forced me to be a fan weather I knew that was what was happening or not. People should give this a listen, because 9 out of 10 chances are you'll like it. That other 1 is just a retard.

Just recently discovered Strands of Oaks after they opened for Tallest Man on Earth. They make perfect sad bastard music.
