Most Helpful Customer Reviews

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Having read Robert Fagles' translation of the Iliad, the Odyssey, and Vergil's the Aeneid, with a scholarly introduction by Bernard
Knox, Pope's translation from 1715 was often cited as being one of the best, if not the best. All the more so as he was able to put it in verse, albeit in Iambic, as Dactylic is not suitable for English. Only four books were offered but, none the less, they were a pleasure to read. Anyone interested in Greek and Roman Mythology should enjoy this work.
