3.0 out of 5 stars not good enough for my kids
Unfortunately, my 2 kids didn't like this. I guess "modern" kids aren't into these old cartoons. Too bad, I liked it.

Popeyes "Greatest Tall Tales and Heroic Adventures"

I have noticed some mixed reviews about this product with most of the negative ones being ghost written by our competition so i wanted to tell everyone the real truth about this product since we are the people who produced it. I am using my wifes Amazon account to post this.

We have taken some of the greatest classic cartoons ever produced, from some of the greatest animators in history, and meticulously added hundreds of hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars of detailed restoration to both the sound and images in order to make them look as good as they did the day they were first released. Each cartoon is digitally processed first through photo shop frame by frame, and then using both the Davinci and the new Pogo systems to remove every scratch, line, dropout and artifact possible. We then we do a full color restoration at Technicolor using the original color palates to match the colors, tones and shades. We then digitally clean up the sound track to remove all the hiss and scratches and carefully add new foley sound effects, ambience and digitally remix them back onto the cartoons.

The result is our animated DVD series which is currently distributed in both the United States and Canada by Goodtimes Entertainment. These fully restored, full motion, color animations have not been seen in this condition since their original theatrical release. Sit back and be amazed and enjoy some of the finest and funniest animation ever made.

thats why were to only studio doing these that have the blessing and participation of Fleischer Studios and the only one to receive the prestigious Gold Medal from the Classic Animation Preservation Society.

I highly recomend this product to any lovers of classic animation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Details for all 9 Popeye cartoons, April 1, 2008
This review is from: Popeye's Greatest Tall Tales & Heroic Adventures (DVD)
FLEISCHER STUDIOS produced Popeye cartoons from 1933 to '42, when Paramount's FAMOUS STUDIOS animation department took over the series and Fleischer's operation. Popeye was originally voiced by Billy Costello, who was replaced (due to his erratic behavior) by former animator, Jack Mercer. Olive was portrayed by many women-- the best-known being Mae Questal (who was also Betty Boop).

POPEYE: FISTS OF FURY (also from GTV) is the perfect supplement to this cartoon collection.

PROGRAM LIST for "Popeye's Greatest Tall Tales & Heroic Adventures" (includes synopses)--
Studios: Fleischer [fl], Famous [fa]

PATRIOTIC POPEYE (1957) [fa] - Popeye takes away his nephews' 4th of July fireworks and they scheme to get them back.

BIG BAD SINDBAD (1952) [fa] - Popeye and nephews see a Sindbad statue in a museum. Popeye tells the boys of his battle with Sindbad, the evil pirate.

ASSAULT AND FLATTERY (1956) [fa] - Judge Wimpy watches scenes from earlier shorts to determine if Popeye is guilty of beating Bluto up.

ME MUSICAL NEPHEWS (1942) [fa] - Popeye can't sleep while his four nephews practice playing square dance music.

ME FEELINS IS HURT (1940) [fl] - Olive dumps Popeye for a cowboy, so he visits her at the Bar None Ranch.

I'M IN THE ARMY NOW (1936) [fl] - Olive's infatuation with soldiers brings Bluto and Popeye to an enlistment station, where clips of earlier shorts are shown.

A DATE TO SKATE (1938) [fl] - Popeye tries to teach Olive to rollerskate. (Mae Questal's last Popeye cartoon as Olive.)

I NEVER CHANGES MY ALTITUDE (1936) [fl] - Olive soars with flyboy Bluto but soon regrets doing so.

THE PANELESS WINDOW WASHER (1937) [fl] - Popeye goes into the window washing business to compete with dishonest Bluto.

4.0 out of 5 stars This one has the good stuff, January 16, 2005
This review is from: Popeye's Greatest Tall Tales & Heroic Adventures (DVD)
It doesn't take long reading reviews on Popeye DVD's to realize everyone wants to get their hands on the old B/W Max Fleischer cartoons. And this one has at least 5 good ones, all restored.
My kids love this stuff. It doesn't try to teach you anything.
Of course, they can't appreciate the differences between the Fleischer and the King incarnations. It's all funny to them. For the price this one is worth it. The DVD compression quality is good too.

My children love popeye. I like to show my children good old fashioned cartoons that I used to watch when I was a kid.
