4.0 out of 5 stars Creation Mythistory December 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book, or various writings, were written by a Father Ximénez, who wrote down what is believed to be a phonetic rendering of an oral recitation performed in or around Santa Cruz del Quiché shortly following Pedro de Alvarado's 1524 conquest. It is basically the Quiche's or Mayan creation myths. Including the creation of the two twin brothers and their heroic adventures and the creation of man from corn. Which is why maize is so important in the Mayan culture.

Interesting but hard reading. Good stories. Many authors have taken ideas from the Popul Vuh to write their own stories and novels.

The history contained in the Popal Vuh, has been verified by many archaeologistes and Myan experts, as being true, and my own, though i'm not an "learned" student of such material, I am an ordainedminister of the Gospel of Christ, and have studied and ministered among many of the Native American peoples of the USA, and their trditons carry much of the information contained in this outstanding find.
