1.0 out of 5 stars Parris replicas not what they used to be, May 12, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

I grew up with a Parris replica. 35 years later, I still have it and it still works. I've bought 3 different Parris replicas, including the Big Popper since December 2007. They've been junk. The Big Popper has been used for about two months, maybe 6 times. I thought it would be better since it didn't have as many plastic parts as other Parris replicas. The firing mechanism has come apart twice now. It just blew the popping mechanism out the end of the barrel, forcing the orange safety cap off the end. I've got a dissapointed little boy who's taken care of his toy gun only to have it fall apart anyway.

Save your money. These aren't worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pop Gun, January 9, 2007

I searched and search for one of these - it was the only thing my 5 years old grandson wanted for Christmas.

He hasn't touched it since.

The barrel came loose right away and bent because the little guy has to brace it on the floor to cock it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality - save your money and buy something else, October 30, 2009
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Big Popper, Wood & Steel, Makes Loud "Pop" Sound When Fired, Bulk (Toy)
Just gave it to my son for his birthday. First impressions: solid wood, stamped sheet metal parts, solid feel, but VERY cheap look. Oddly, a small nail is used to fasten the stock to the cardboard package, leaving a little nail hole in the stock after you remove it from the packaging. Go figure.

Upon cocking it **the very first time** to show my son that it could make a popping noise, the barrel came loose. I was even being mindful to grip the stock and not the barrel! Closer examination revealed that the cocking mechanism pushes the barrel up, away from the stock, which is fastened by two screws that run through the stock into the barrel. It appears that those screws are stripped.

Just as with another reviewer, this was the only thing my son asked for as a birthday gift. Seeing his excitement turn into disappointment within 30 seconds of unwrapping this was the low point of his birthday.

I suppose if you're strictly fulfilling some sort of nostalgic longing and not planning to play with this thing, it's a recommended buy, but otherwise this is destined for the trash.

Also, remember that you're not dealing with Amazon directly on this, and their normal return policies do not apply (as we've been directed to contact the 3rd party vendor directly, perhaps because we bought some time before his birthday and had it hidden away in its box for 34 days, 4 days past the 30-day vendor limit).

Edit: At the end of all this, I'm quite happy to report that Amazon stepped in with very little hassle and provided a refund even though the vendor may or may not have been willing to do so.
