Hello my name is LJ Richmond. I liked this book because there's a lot of action and adventure. The book is about a girl mouse who loses her fiance and she wants to find his parents so she can tell them of the bad news. On the way she finds a new friend. He is a porcupine. The book is sometimes funny and sometimes sad. Well thanks for reading my review. See ya.

We thought it was one of the best books we've ever read! We enjoyed it thoroughly and recommened it for young readers. We've always loved Ereth's alliteration. ERETH IS THE BEST!!!!!! We all love Poppy's adventurous spirit. We hope you come out with another book just as good, if not better.

Poppy has done it again ! Not onley does she save Ragweed's brother ,Rye , from a nasty batch of beavers ,

but she also saves Ragweed's family as well. I'd say this book is for someone who likes animals that's

proabaly why I like it so much.

In this edition of the Poppy series by Avi, Poppy sets off on a quest to find her late boyfriend's (Ragweed's) parents, and tell them about how he died in an attack by Mr. Ocax, the great horned owl. If you read "Poppy" and enjoyed it (we did!), then you'll definitely love the sequel.

Our favorite characters, Poppy and Ereth are back! Poppy remains one of the smartest, kindest mice ever to come out of Dimwood Forest. Ereth the porcupine is still the bristly, foul-mouthed softie, who grudgingly supports Poppy in all of her adventures.

The setting of this installment is "The Brook". There is a battle being fought over "ownership" of the Brook, between Ragweed's family of golden mice, and a family of beavers. The beavers' leader, Caster P. Canad, speaks mainly in idioms, and it's hard not to like such a silly villain!

If you like adventure, funny dialogue, and the great outdoors, then this action-packed story is the perfect book for you! It is one of our second grade class' favorite read-alouds ever!

Poppy and Rye by Avi is a sweet, adventurous, and brave tale of a small deer mouse named Poppy. After her boyfriend, Ragweed, was killed by an owl named Mr. Ocax while dancing on a hill in the moonlight, poppy sets out through Dimwood Forest to tell Ragweed's family the tragic news. Accompanying her on the journey, her dearest friend Ereth the porcupine, who has to leave his smelly old log, isn't too happy. "Oh, frozen frog pips!" says Ereth, who swears all of the time. Meanwhile, at Ragweed's home, which is on the bank of a brook, is still waiting for Ragweed's return. Ragweed's younger brother Rye is now in charge and is quite satisfied with the honor, but the family soon grows worried. When Poppy finally arrives, she finds out that the family's first home on the bank of the brook has been flooded by a group of beavers who have moved in to dam up the brook, and they are succeeding. As Poppy and Rye soon start to fall in love, they must also work together to fight the beavers to save their beloved brook, and themselves.
This book is a good book for young readers and beginners. It has well, descriptive images that bring the story to life. In this battle between small mice and large beavers, I thought there was enough going on and it started out simple, but then got more exciting, heart-pounding and fast. The story has a good balance because it switches off from one smaller story to the next. Staring off with the calm life of Poppy the mouse and Ereth the porcupine, then growing bigger into the beginning of the adventure. Then it switches to the proud yet lonely life of Rye, who wants to be in charge but also wants his brother home, and then finally to the beavers of Caster P. Canad and Company are starting to build the dam and negotiate with the mice. Some more negative things about the book are that the story doesn't branch out far enough but just goes in an awkward circle, it was a little confusing at parts when the author didn't explain something very clearly, like how the pond was set up with all of the different lodges of the beavers and where the land was.
I would recommend this book but first to read Poppy also by Avi which comes before Poppy and Rye because it is a lot easier to understand and you know what's happening. It is a really good soft, sweet story and at first both sides, the beavers and the mice seem equally positive and likeable, then I liked the mice more, then the beavers, and finally the beavers turn out to be really nasty and mean to the mice. I really enjoyed the book and all of the other connecting stories I've read by Avi like Poppy and Ereth's birthday. And lastly, a word from Mr. Canad, owner of Caster P. Canad and Co., "I want to say to you, and I mean this, really I do, with all my soul, honestly, sincerely, have a nice day!"

Well, Poppy and Erith are going to tell Ragweed's parents that he died, so on their way they meet Rye, who just so happens to be Ragweed's brother he is out seasrching for Ragweed, and then they break the news to him that Ragweed died, which actually might be a not so bad thing, because for Rye being second best in his family was a way of life they liked Ragweed better, but now would be a perfect chance for Rye to prove himself, I could tell you what happens, but you'll just have to read the book!.............!

In his sequel, Avi lets his readers know what happened in the time and space before the last chapter of Poppy. Caster P. Canad, the beaver, looms large on the cover to represent the nemesis. Young readers will learn that not all foes have such evil intent as Mr. Ocax. Some make themselves enemies by their selfish desire for power and prestige. I read this novel to 4th and 5th graders in my Elementary School Library. The students once again cheered Poppy, laughed hysterically at Ereth's snyde remarks and found a new romantic hero in Rye. In George Lucas-esque fashion, Avi has gone back and written "Ragweed" to tell the story of the elder brother's adventures before he comes to Dimwood Forest. These characters are ready and waiting for stardom in a Disney movie. My students are demanding a sequel to Poppy and Rye. Perhaps one of their children will grow into a romantic with an adventurous spirit like their parents? Avi...are you listening?

Wow, What an Amazing Book

Hi, the book I'm reviewing is Poppy and Rye. The authors name is Avi. The location were the book mostly takes place is the brook. Another location is the beaver's lodges which you will find out were that is later in the book.

Things from the story

One of the very important things is when Poppy the mouse was about to make a trip to Ragweed's old house so she could tell Ragweed's parents why Ragweed would never return. Poppy called her best friend Ereth the porcupine old because she was apologizing because Poppy had been begging Ereth to come with her. Then Poppy said she was sorry for not respecting the elderly. Then Ereth got the impression that Poppy was calling him old. Another thing was when Poppy and Rye met. They met when Ereth was sleeping and Poppy was supposed to be sleeping. Poppy was dancing with a daisy and Rye asked if he could join. There's a beaver who's named Cas and he's got plans to make the brook into a lake. They have also captured Rye! What will happen to him????

Things I Liked

Some of the things I liked about this book are that the author gave so many details for example: the author described the grass in Dimwood as moist, the trees leaves delicious and the stars dancing in beauty and grace. When I read this book I couldn't stop reading until I figured out what happened to the character that was in distress. The book is a very good book. I also liked how the mice were braver than humans at times

For example: a 3 inch tall mouse has the courage to go in a beaver lodge when the beaver's are 2ft. and have giant tails. I thought it was pretty much fiction but, it was still fun to read.

My Ratings

I give this book, without a doubt, a 5 star rating because it's just a great book. I think this book is meant for kid's ages 9-13 years old.

Struggling to find her love Rye, Poppy (a mouse) has to stop the beavers from making dams. She also has to stop them from turning the beautiful little pond to a big and dirty lake. Rye (a mouse) is trapped inside a dam and cannot get free. So Poppy is not only trying to stop the beavers and set free Rye, Poppy has a wild adventurer with her friend the porcupine, Ereth to tell Ragweed's parents (Rye's brother) is dead. Can Poppy stop the beavers as well as set free Rye and deliver the news? To find out, the call number is AVI and the author and illustrator is Avi and Brian Floca. You need to read this book along with the other great adventures with its series. "Ragweed," "Poppy,' "Poppy and Rye," Ereth's Birthday" and "Poppy's Return." This author has written many great books especially this one. So please, read this book. "Poppy and Rye" is a book for anyone. It has adventure, describing and wow words and many more! Here are some describing and colorful weird words said by Ereth. "Oh, fox flip," the porcupine growled. "Sticky roach toes," Ereth muttered. "Crabgrass up their snoots," Ereth snapped. Avi has a great word choice that makes you picture everything but with words. He really uses his imagination when it comes to writing words. This book I think everyone should read. So please try it!

An absolutly stunning childrens book, Avi makes it an exciting and addicting read. Very powerful read aloud to young children. It is the best book in the series, in my opinion. I highly recomend it.
