Deutschland, I never knew you!I guess, for a decade before the rise of disco, Germany tried to purify its mind and soul of its actions during A Major Historical Event by drowning itself in maddening mountains of fantastic, orgiastic music. Between the roots of techno, kinky sex music, and THIS, there were enough interesting beats going on to soothe *something*. These 1960's-70's trax, if they don't BANG me a new sewer pipe, they SWING me a Mod symphony or TURN me out. I heard "Moulinex," thought it must be some pretty groovy drug! with that pulsing, ghetto-worthy disco bump. It's a brand of kitchen equipment. The "Minikillers" duo is an absolute riot of silly sex games. What sorta film was this? And there's something so bright about "Swinging Nordwest" - I just wanna be in this Laugh-In universe of commerce. I could say more, but my hands hurt. What's so amazing about this is: if the loopy, inexact liner notes are to be believed, these songs aren't considered anything more than throwaway product pushers, calculated to open the purse strings of Cold War-era West German youth. Most of their audience probably heard them in truncated commercial form. If they were released in the U. S. right now, their producers would be Public Radio darlings. In fact, the compiler had to peck and hunt over years to find out the composers, and a couple producers' names are still unknown.
