I was really irritated when I downloaded this book - for a number of reasons.

1) it's poorly written. While I like to support authors that self-publish, especially in the e-market, there is still something to be said about quality of writing. Sentences were poorly constructed and it seemed that about half of them ended with exclaimation points.

2) The formatting of the book is done incorrectly. It text-wraps, cutting lines off midway and starting over on the next line. While this may or may not be a mistake of the publisher, it should have been dealt with.

3) it's only 30 pages long. Actually, 36 - but a number of those are blank, two are police reports and then there are the lead-in pages... leaving about 30 pages of text.

In all - I feel ripped off.

Additionally, while I initially felt sorry for the author, little of the story was from her personal experience. She relayed a lot of second hand information, droned on in a un-interesting narrative and essentially just gave a list of events with little meat to hold them together. It feels like this is the outline for a book that she planned on writing, but never got around to. When the opportunity to self-publish and make a few dollars came along, that's exactly what happened... and since e-books are non-refundable, we all get taken for a ride.

After reading the sample I was excited to read the book. How disapointed and ripped off am I feeling now? Very. I found this book to be badly written, more like a list than a story, desperately in need of editing and as for those exclamation marks...Dont waste your money on this one.

yes, an experienced editor or co-writer would help this book tremendously. But there is something to be said for the obvious theraputic value the telling of her story has done for the author. She should be commended for her triumph overcoming such a dismal life.

This book makes Precious look diminutive. I have never read such a horrific story. The fact that she lived through it and raised her own two children by herself is unbelievable. Describing her as resilient is an understatement. Her experience made her durable and feisty as she got older. Thank God.

I give this a 3* rating because the Author has clearly suffered and has shared a story to help abuse survivors.
My issues with this book is I think that it has been poorly written. The chapters are mostly about names of towns or men in her family's life. I would have liked to hear more of her fighting back, which had only been expressed 3 times and very brief.
The book also surprised me at the elementary level of reading. If you are searching for a quick read that will help you feel like you're not alone, this book is it. Do not expect more than a story.
I'm sorry Anne, for your childhood. Let us move forward together and keep Danny in jail.

Anne needed help on the grammatical areas among other needed helps, however it did hold my attention. Anyone who went through that much trauma needed to vent someway. I hope this book helped her somewhat. We don't always know why we go through tragedies like this; no matter how severe, but even the unwanted roads we travel end up better in the end. Jesus Christ went through pain, suffering, mocking, betrayal, deception, and so on. The whip used to beat Him had sharp hooks on the end that dug into His flesh and hurt severely when pulled out to be hit again and again. He had a purpose in life, and our purpose in life may hold pain and suffering, as well. People are given choices to make and sometimes those choices hurt others -- severely!

Forgiveness is part of growing in life. When you forgive, it doesn't mean you have to like what that person did, agree with it, or hang out with him/her. Forgiveness helps you move on and replace the hurt with the love of Christ. Don't ever let someone keep you from growing stronger because of your past hurts, grief, etc. If you have a hard time forgiving someone, ask Jesus to help you forgive. That way you can move on to a better life trying to forget the past and enjoy the life you have now.

So..I haven't finished this book yet, but I will state what my feelings are..the story is sad..so I do appreciate how painful the writing of this book must have been for the author. However, The book is poorly written. The author's vocabulary is apparently small because at least once a page seems to include "real" as a descriptive word ie: real hard, real scared, real fast etc. Plus all the exclamation marks are a bit overkill. I know the excitement and fear and do not need a "!" after each sentence..The chapter changes blend with the words so it's hard to know where it ends and begins. The story is saddening and genuine, though poorly written. It reads as it would be written by a teenager..

I had a hard time reading this book for the simple fact that the events she tells are extremely horrific. I can't say I enjoyed reading, that just seems wrong, but I wouldn't take back or want a refund on the book. Cookie for you sharing your hardships with the world. That is NOT an easy thing to you and you should be praised, especially with everything you went through. God bless you and your children, good luck!

I am appalled that a publisher would even represent a book so poorly written. The spelling is awful, there is an overuse of exclamation points and the sequence of events do not comport with reality. The addition of police reports is oft putting and is essentially irrelevant.
I am so annoyed that I wasted my time and 3.99 to read this on Kindle.
