Awesome Bible Prophecy Tool,
By Cathrine1st (Kuwait) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary: Understanding the Meaning of Every Prophetic Passage (Tim LaHaye Prophecy Library(TM)) (Hardcover)
This commentary is a great tool to have in your library, especially if you study bible prophecy and end-time bible prophecy. I read my bible, then turn to Tim Lahaye's commentary for more insight. It clarifies what my NASB is saying and gives me more understanding into what was going on at the time. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in prophecy.

Lahaye and Hindson's work are detailed and deal with every Old and New Testament passage revelant to pretribulation understanding of the rapture and the revelation of Christ. This book is a worthwhile purchase for the prophecy student.

I call this book "bare bones" because:
1) There is only one page devoted to explaining the topic of the book. After that one page introduction (which is essentially a self-serving sales pitch for other aspects of the ministry), it begins as a commentary on every passage deemed by the author[s] as having prophetic content. It is a bare bones Bible commentary on prophecy without the Bible text. Certainly the concept of prophecy could be described and explained in more depth than the one page, which doesn't even begin to describe prophecy. And certainly the basis for inclusion of prophetic verses and the biases of the authors could be described. But they weren't. 2) Nothing ties in or explains the various multi-book interpretations of prophetic scripture together. Every Book, Chapter, and section of Verses are totally stand alone. I expected a number of articles that related, compared and contrasted various prophetic themes. I call the book "almost complete" because it lacks some of the more current and very credible interpretations of end time prophecy involving Islam and the Middle East. The Amaazon web site indicates the Copyright date as 2007. My book indicates 2006. But even in the timeframe of 2005-2006 when the book was likely written or at least updated, I would have expected the more current interpretations of folks like Joel Richardson and others to be at least mentioned in appropriate spots, even if the General Editors disagree with their interpretations.

I enjoy reading this book. I like the topical organization. It has shown me how much prophecy there is is the Bible. It arrived in perfect condition just as indicated.

I am using the commentary with the Bible and the prophectic references are both helpful and insightful. It certainly does it's job of tying the Old Testament with the New Testament which enables the reader to see and understand the work of ABBA.

The Bible contains hundreds of prophecies, and not all of the related to eschatology. Thus, it is quite important to understand prophecy to be able to comprehend the Scriptures. From Genesis through Revelation, the authors take readers on a tour of both foretelling and forthtelling words. In the process, readers are given insights into ancient life and vocabulary that can be useful in understanding other parts of the Bible. It is worth noting that while there will be little contraversy regarding how Misters LaHaye and Hindson discuss prophecies not related to the end times, their views on that finale of human history are, not unexpectedly, Premil Dispensational. This may be problematic for Amill, Postmill, Preterist, and so on readers.
