4.0 out of 5 stars The final volume in this Frank Sinatra & Tommy Dorsey series, April 24, 2003
This review is from: Popular Frank Sinatra 3 (Audio CD)
This is the third and final volume of "The Popular Frank Sinatra," which collects the work the singer did with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra during the early 1940s. This is probably the weakest of the three, with the first being the best of the bunch, but taken together they make a nice addition to your music library of Frank Sinatra's music career before his astounding solo work in the 1950s. The emphasis on Volume 3 seems to be to cover as many of the great composers of the time as possible. You will find songs by Cole Porter ("Night and Day"), Irving Berlin ("Blue Skies), Oscar Hammerstein & Jerome Kern ("The Song Is You"), Hoagy Carmichael ("The Lamplighter's Serenade"), and E.Y. "Yip" Harburg ("Poor You"). The other really good songs on this album would be "East of the Sun (And West of the Moon)," "You Lucky People," and "Without a Song." Find out while millions of bobby soxers made young Frankie the Kid the nation's top crooner.
