Join PMK's junior hosts, Jay and Elisha, for a thrilling tour of underwater and sky borne transport in Radical Rockets. The action begins on a Trident nuclear submarine, where Jay walks over missile silos, visits the ship's nerve center (and even steers it for a moment), looks through a periscope, and learns what makes a vessel that is longer than two football fields dive and surface. Meanwhile, Elisha takes a fantastic ride on a two-woman sub, then joins her cohort at NASA for some disorienting training in weightlessness, spurious motion, and flight control on the space shuttle. Along the way, there are lessons in the chemistry of booster rockets and how astronauts find leaks via computer. There's also a chapter on remote-controlled model submarines, but for the most part watching Radical Rockets is like gaining exclusive, enviable access to the biggest and coolest machines in the world. --Tom Keogh

5.0 out of 5 stars A great video for 2 1/2 - 8 year olds., September 17, 2004
By Carter's Mom (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews

This is one of those rare DVDs that is entertaining and captivating to a 2 1/2 year old, but educational enough to provide new information to much older kids. There are four episodes on this DVD: Submarines, Cool Cars, Boats, and Rockets. It is narrated by two preteens, but isn't annoying. They go deeper into concepts than most kids videos (talk about air and hydrodynamic pressure, explains how water locks work on canals, etc.). Even I can enjoy watching the shows.

If your child has moved slightly beyond the "Real Wheels" series, this is just great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Educational but Fun, September 24, 2005
I have 4 kids ages 10 to 2 and they all love watching these movies. My oldest made the comment that usually movies like this are boring but this one isn't as "cheesy" as some others she has seen. I bought the whole collection and they haven't gotten tired of watching them yet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for 3 and 5 year old, February 25, 2008
By Beccaboney "beccaboney" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews

I bought this for my 5 year old son, but my 3 year old daughter also enjoys it (though a bit long for her age). My son is really into rockets and space, but knows nothing of commercialized stories such as Star Wars and the like. So he's very intrigued by the actual inner workings of rockets and boosters and things that goes into space. Lots of great real life video, which is always a hit with his mom. The kids are a bit older than him, but he still enjoys it.
