Book Description

May 1994
Car care and repair is a hobby enjoyed by the weekend mechanic. It is also a necessity if an automobile is to last beyond its traditional trade-in period. In this complete, up-to-date guide to troubleshooting and repair, over 550 step-by-step line drawings guide readers through over 80 repairs and improvements, including how to fix exhaust systems, repair flat tires, unclog electronic fuel injection systems, stop brakes from squealing, and replace shattered windshields. And when drivers sooner or later run into a pole, hit a fence, or bump another car at an intersection, this book will be there to help undo the damage with advice on replacing cracked plastic body panels and dealing with minor dings and dents.

Special attention is given to diagnosing problems in new cars equipped with supposedly "unrepairable" electronic systems and an extensive section covering maintenance bsics helps amateur mechanics select the appropriate tools for the job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of PM articles, April 6, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Popular Mechanics Saturday Mechanic (Hardcover)
I've always loved the PM auto repair articles. Absolutely the best illustrations that leave nothing to the imagination, along with good discussions of options/variations, but kept concise. This book brings together some of the best and most basic auto maintenance procedures from PM and provides a solid understanding of what goes on in and around your car. I'd still recommend a repair manual specific to your car's make and model as a companion reference, but if you want to understand a component and how it works, look to PM to explain it clearly

3.0 out of 5 stars A great book for the average automobile owner, June 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Popular Mechanics Saturday Mechanic (Hardcover)
With lots of how-to's for car accessories and minor parts, this book is great for the casual interest. This is not a book, however, for anyone who is seriously interested in becoming an auto-mechanic. This book is only for the casual interest in automobiles.
