Popular amongst my collection,

Jonezetta's debut album, "Popularity", is headed for just that. With exquisite vocals and incredibly catchy tunes, it'll be a wonder if they don't make some splash in the music industry. Witty lyrics and beats that'll have you wiggling your torso in no time, will surely make Jonezetta a band with longevity.
In a sound that is all to itself, "Populartity"'s sound is quite hard to describe. Counter-tempos, syncopated rythms, fun guitars and even tambourines riddle this fantastic production to produce what I can only describe as "Fun Rock." (Personally, I found it great for driving and for background music in a pool party I had recently. Everyone kept bobbing their heads to the beats.) Lyrically, Jonezetta's a home run as well. Their modern social critique is exceptional and their talent is entirely evident. The only "flaw" (if that) is that this album contains a few songs that sound a little similar. But since they don't ALL sound the same, the album still draws you back into it and it's originality still pours out in waves. In short, this is an album that no one should deny themselves. If you're looking for something fresh, you've no need to look further. Enjoy!

Jonezetta arrives, bells and all...,
This review is from: Popularity (Audio CD)
Popularity is a very catchy and accessible album, yet it successfully penetrates the shallowness brought on by other such genres/bands/albums. On the initial listen, everyone from the musically apathetic to the snobbiest of indie snobs is bound to catch themselves subconsciously tapping a foot or finger to the playful beats and delicious melodies of Jonezetta. But don't worry, there are many layers yet to be discovered on almost every song.
With a spread of influences like U2, The Cure, Jimmy Eat World, and The Killers, Jonezetta seems to learn from the best while molding a sound that is all their own. Their first single, "Get Ready (Hot Machete)", along with "Welcome Home" and "Backstabber", are infectious, dynamic forces to be reckoned with, while songs like "Communicate" and "Burn It Down!" maintain that same energy while allowing more heartfelt emotion to enter. There are no filler songs on this one, folks. Popularity will reign my CD player for a while. An excellent buy.

I'm completely blown away by the depth & maturity that this young band displays on their debut release. Very hard to believe that these guys haven't been through several records prior to arriving here. I can't stop listening to this and if this doesn't catch on, I'm not sure what will! This is one of those finds that is love on first listen and it doesn't stop there. A++++! Do yourself a favor and buy this record!

The Dance Rock Revolution,
By Nathan Knapp_Voronwë (Seattle) - See all my reviews

Wanna trip, baby? Put this disk in your CD player and you'll be moving to it for awhile. This album rocks with an infectious quality that you'll be hardpressed to find elsewhere. The guitars buzz through the songs with a huge, gritty sound on songs like "Man In a 3k Suit" and the hard-hitting title track, "Popularity" while "Backstabber" and "Get Ready (Hot Machete)" will grab you with their dance beats and Chisolm's passionate vocals.
It doesn't matter what brand of rock you like best--indie, mainstream, emo, hardcore--if you're not moving within seconds of the opening guitar riffs of Popularity, then maybe you need medication or something, because you've clearly not got any hipness to you. However, that's not to say that this is a perfect album. Most of the songs are similar, and on some songs the synths feel a little recycled from earlier songs. Ironically, although the music has been termed by "fun", most of the lyrics are serious in nature, if not cynical. Look out for this band... I'm surpised I'm not hearing this everytime I turn on my radio. I wouldn't be surprised if in a year or two, that's exactly what happens.

Jonezetta- Popularity,

This is the best album I have heard all year. A brilliant mix of guitars with just enough vocals to hit the spot. Lyrically it is very catchy and singer friendly. Make this the next album you buy.

Somewhat catchy but overwhelmingly redundant,

I decided to give this album a chance based on several glowing reviews, but after a few listens, I can honestly say that I don't get the appeal of if. There are a couple of tracks that have mildly catchy hooks, but overall, the instrumentation is repetitive and the lyrics are sophomoric. I'm not sure if the reviewers that fawned over this had not heard a solid melody in a few years, but "Popularity" is largely forgettable.
Sure, I like to support the smaller fish just as much as the next guy, but for those that are looking for a good "dance rock" album that you'll actually remember listening to the next day, I'd suggest buying one of the Killers albums or the Brothers Martin album instead of this.

Took a while to get to me, but CD is pretty good, some good musical ideas and creativity. With a little bit of elbow grease and uniqueness, i think this band could be very very awesome.

Careful - only buy if you like to dance.,

This is a great cd. The songs are original and upbeat, my favorites are "Get Ready [Hot Machete]" "Bringin' it back [Everybody Start]" and "The Love that Carries Me. The lyrics are clean as a whistle but aren't stupid either. Very worth buying. =)

POP-ularity,

For a band out of obscure Mississippi, this is a definite breath of fresh air. This album provides all the right ingrediets to get your booty shaking and you WILL be singing along with all the hooks (which run rampant throughout the whole album). After seeing the band live numerous times, I was skeptical that they would be able to recreate the electricity of the experience on disk. Well, they did. The star track, "Communicate", soars with memorable hooks and melodies that will leave you humming after first listen. When you think that you can't get more dancy, you do- with "Hot Machete" the band takes dance pop to the next level. This is THE disc to buy if you love pop rock and great hooks. You will not be disappointed!

From the moment you put this cd in your player or itunes or whatever to the moment you take it out (which won't be for a LONG time), you will be dancing. Jonezetta is pop if pop weren't cheesy.
