From School Library Journal

Grade 5-7 Giving in to the urging of her best friends, "The Fabulous Five," Christie agrees to run for president of the seventh grade against a member of their arch rivals, "The Fantastic Foursome." She admits to herself that she resents letting herself be manipulated. With the help of Jon, a classmate whom she tutors in math, she ingeniously devises a scheme to elect a mystery presidential candidate. The last chapter is a lead-in to the next book in the series. An acceptable title in a squeaky clean paperback series. Lucy Marx, Louisville Free Public Library, Ky.

More About the Author

My 76th juvenile novel, THE DEARLY DEPARTED (ISBN#9781590923818) was published in April, 2007, and my three-book Christmas series called The Santa Diaries will be out this fall. I also write for young adults and am busy revising a YA novel for my agent. I have written historical novels, mysteries, supernatural/ghost stories and humor. Lots of humor. I have authored four book series: TAFFY SINCLAIR (Bantam Skylark), its spin-off series, THE FABULOUS FIVE (Bantam Skylark), BOYTALK (Random House Bullseye) and BONE CHILLERS (HarperPaperback). The BONE CHILLERS became an ABC Saturday Morning TV series in 1996. In Hollywood, I took part in the filming of public service announcements shown at the end of each episode. What a blast!

My humorous novel, THE GREAT MOM SWAP, became an ABC Saturday Night Movie in 1995. When I'm not writing, I'm teaching "Writing the Middle-Grade Novel" and "Writing the Young Adult Novel" online for UCLA Extension.

4.0 out of 5 stars You should read this one!, August 10, 1999

This review is from: The Popularity Trap (The Fabulous Five #3) (Paperback)
When the rest of the Fabulous Five enter Christie into the class president competetion without asking her first, Christie is upset because she doesn't want to be president. But she doesn't want to make her friends mad, so she goes along with it. At the same time, she is tutoring this boy in her class who she sort of has a crush on, and discovers a secret about him. This is a pretty good book- I like how Christie handles things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Third Book in The Fabulous Five Series, June 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Popularity Trap (The Fabulous Five #3) (Paperback)
Seventh-grader Christie Winchell has always been considered the quiet, brainy one in her group. She's also well-known and liked among the faculty members, especially by Mr. Bell, Wakeman Junior High's principal and a good friend of Christie's mother. That's why her four friends nominate her to run as president in the seventh grade class election; they're certain she'll be a shoe-in with her "connections". Christie is somewhat reluctant, though, but she doesn't want to disappoint anyone either. So, with the help of Jon Smith (the quiet seventh-grader Christie's been tutoring in math), Christie sets out to find a happy medium by creating a mystery candidate to run against her and prissy Melissa McConnell (part of The Fantastic Foursome, The Fabulous Five's arch rivals) in the upcoming class election.

I thought "The Popularity Trap" was a pretty good children's book... if you're into the Fab Five series, you'll probably like this third installment. Recommended for 9 to 12-year-old girls.
