5.0 out of 5 stars Knock your socks off
Even if you think you know Italian dry mushrooms -- order these and find out how wrong you were. Unbelievably beautiful, deeply fragrant, terrific huge intact slices. Flip all the cards over: these completely redefine the category. Not just for sauces: soak a few to garnish your steak. Make a knockout appetizer with these porcini, some stock and a shot of marsala. 2.0 out of 5 stars Expensive Mushrooms? Ehhh....
I went for these, when I got a free 30 bucks to spend with a new Amazon Credit Card, and Im glad I didn't pay full price.

I was in the process of creating an authentic Bolognese Meat Sauce, and I wanted some very hearty mushrooms to add a bit of OOMPH to the sauce, which is meat and onion heavy, and I figured from the reviews that these are a meaty tasting...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful mushrooms, February 7, 2010

I have purchased many porcini mushrooms in grocery and gourmet stores. These were the best quality (flavor and shape). The price was excellent as well. I added some to a fresh mushroom soup I made and got an incredible depth of flavor. Have also used them in braised beef dishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, great flavor, May 21, 2010

I've purchased 1# bags of dried porcini previously from a very expensive gourmet food purveyor in NYC. I tried this product - the price was a bit lower, but the shipping was MUCH lower. The dried porcini are as good, if not better than from the expensive place. They arrived promptly and were packaged well. I immediately put about a third of them into an airtight glass jar on my counter. Packaged the rest up in a doubled freezer bag and put them in the freezer. They keep well for over a year. The pieces are large, sliced well, clean and bright. The aroma is beautiful. Tossed some into a pot of braised lamb shanks the day they arrived - fabulous...

These mushrooms are wonderful! They taste rich and woodsy, and add real complexity to soups, stews or anyplace you would use fresh mushrooms.

Dried mushrooms don't weigh much, so you will find your order may be larger than you expect. The supplier recommends that you store them in the refrigerator or freezer.

Shipping was amazing. I ordered them on Friday and received them on Monday, standard shipping -- the package started in Massachusetts and arrived in Seattle in four days! Very happy with that!

4.0 out of 5 stars Boletus edulis, February 11, 2011

Excellent rich flavor and the mushrooms were freshly dried. Based on the spores under a microscope, were these 100 percent Boletus edulis?

5.0 out of 5 stars Porcini Mushrooms - Grade Super Premium AA 4oz, January 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was not able to find these mushrooms in any nearby stores, so I decided to order on-line through Amazon. The product came very quickly and although 4 oz doesn't seem like much, my recipe called for only 1/2 oz, so this pack will go a long way. Once reconstituted, and added to my pot roast they were delicious. They made the sauce really tasty and earthy. My family loved them. I will use them in stews and soups in the future. Well worth ordering at Amazon. Great service, great product.

I went for these, when I got a free 30 bucks to spend with a new Amazon Credit Card, and Im glad I didn't pay full price.

I was in the process of creating an authentic Bolognese Meat Sauce, and I wanted some very hearty mushrooms to add a bit of OOMPH to the sauce, which is meat and onion heavy, and I figured from the reviews that these are a meaty tasting mushroom. I also see the price asked for these at our local Giant Eagle grocery stores, so, yeah, I did get a bargain from their rip off pricing, but, these are basically taking up freezer space.

I ordered two grades, a higher grade with bigger shroom pieces, less stems, etc, and in retrospect, should have just ordered the scraps, or even the dust, as I found the big pieces stayed a nasty tough chewy texture, even after hours of cooking, I also extracted just juice from the mushrooms, but the broth wasn't strong enough to bother, I basically just chop these in the food processor, and add a LOT of them to get a change in flavor in recipes, the one ounce bags, don't even bother with, because it takes a lot to get some flavor from them.

In all honesty, I have not used another Poricini product, so I can't compare, but, I am disappointed with the results I got from these, it may be they do exactly what they are supposed to, for some one with a very tender palate, but, not for me, and in no case, are these ever going to be rehydrated and served on steak, they just stay too nasty of a product to serve by themselves, strictly good for grinding and using in a recipe.

These were fair. I don't feel they are AA quality. Would not repurchase.
