I first heard this recording in college on vinyl and was taken by the arrangements of the great musical. If you enjoy Porgy and Bess and Miles Davis, then you'll love this disk.

The Most Important Collaboration of Miles Davis and Gil Evans,
By Brian Schiff "jaywilton" (Detroit Mi. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess (Audio CD)
Given to what The Oscars and popular music have been reduced to with the 2006 Oscar going to "the mack (c)rap" from 'Hustle and Flow',Miles Davis and Gil Evans collaboration of Gershwin's 'Porgy and Bess' should be regarded as their most important work and should be seriously re-marketted.This is brilliant stuff-and it's sad to think of this timeless music being replaced by so much crap;my only complaint is that Miles' beautiful rendition of 'Summertime' could've been longer than three minutes and that Red Garland and John Coltrane(for his version of 'Summertime' check out his album 'My Favorite Things')from Davis's first great quintet were left out.Fortunately Philly Joe Jones on drums and - Paul Chambers on bass and Cannonball Adderley from Miles's sextet that did 'Kind Of Blue are included in this masterpiece.
