4.0 out of 5 stars UNSPEAKABLY VULGAR--I LOVED IT!
Some fifteen years ago, my then-teenage nephew coaxed my sister into renting this for him and after dinner we plunked it into the VCR. Ten minutes later my mother declared it "UNSPEAKABLY VULGAR" and stomped out of the room while uttering dire warnings about the fate of those who exposed themselves to such purile material. 3.0 out of 5 stars Fun
Well, "fun" isn't the best descriptor I've ever come up with but Porky's is precisely that--and a little less. It's not what one would call a deep or engrossing movie though. It lacks the complexity and genius of an Animal House or a Stripes, but it certainly is a good time. Porky's is rather topical due to Sex and the City's recent release because, as a young woman, Kim...

4.0 out of 5 stars UNSPEAKABLY VULGAR--I LOVED IT!, January 28, 2003
This review is from: Porky's (DVD)
Some fifteen years ago, my then-teenage nephew coaxed my sister into renting this for him and after dinner we plunked it into the VCR. Ten minutes later my mother declared it "UNSPEAKABLY VULGAR" and stomped out of the room while uttering dire warnings about the fate of those who exposed themselves to such purile material. Well, Mother was right: it is purile, maybe even to the point of being unspeakably vulgar! But it's also a lot of fun. The plot is lightweight: a group of sex-crazed Florida highschool boys desperate to lose their virginity try to do precisely that by visiting Porky's, a swamp-water red-neck brothel and general den of inquity. When they get robbed and beaten up by Porky and his minions, they plot an elaborate revenge that is... well... sure to bring down the house!

The plot is really just the string that holds together a series of elaborate practical jokes--the sort of jokes you always heard about when you were a kid and wondered if any one ever really could pull them off. The largely no-name cast, especially Dan Monahan (Pee Wee, so named for his, er, shortcomings), Kaki Hunter (Wendy, the highschool floozie), and Nancy Parsons (Beulah Balbricker, the Godzilla of girls' gymn teachers), play it with an engagingly light touch--and somehow manage to give it an aura of innocence that adds to the movie's charm.

The film drags a bit due to the script's well-intentioned but ho-hum subplot concerning the racism a Jewish boy encounters at Angel Beach High School, but that aside the comic episodes are a laugh riot--and it's impossible to describe them without giving the fun away. There's Cherry Forever, the discovery of why Miss Honeywell is called "Lassie," the truly hilarious and infamous girls' shower scene and its aftermath in the principal's office... just one after another, thick and fast. It will never make any critic's shortlist, but if you're looking for mindless lunacy done with a youthful innocence, PORKY'S may just be the film you're looking for. The DVD has near-zip in the way of extras, and although it is offered here in pan-and-scan there are widescreen prints available. Recommended for that rainy afternoon when you want to remember what you wished your teenage years were like!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE DEFFINITIVE FRAT COMEDY that created the genre... endlessly imitated., September 21, 2006

This review is from: Porky's (DVD)
PORKY'S was the first frat comedy that elevated "frat comedy/coming of age" into a comic sub-genre on its own. Endlessly imitated... very rarely matched... never surpassed.

This film tells the story of a group of nerdy oddballs high schoolers (in 1954) who are determined to loose their virginity... at any cost! Porky's is the name of the "bordelo" they choose as the place to "do it"...
-laughs.

But instead, they get humiliated by the owner who (as we'll find out) cheated the wrong kids. What comes next, is one of the most hilarious revenges in film History. Period!

Sexy, hilarious, politically incorrect, scatologic, at times disgusting... but always hilarious!! This film is a riot!!!

My favorite scene is when one of the guys puts his **** through a hole on the wall to the girls' showers... and later the boys must stay in a lineup so a shocked old teacher can identify the **** who scared her.
UNTHINKABLE!!!!

This film is a classic!!
Open your mind and laugh till you drop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best, September 6, 2004
This review is from: Porky's [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Porky's is one very funny movie! Especially the scene in which Miss Balbricker explains to the principal & the coaches about having a line-up of five boys exposing their private parts! Look for Kim Cattrall as Miss Honeywell, Alex Karras as a crooked sheriff & his wife Susan Clark as a backwoods hooker. Pee-Wee & the gang get their revenge on Porky after he rips them off & throws them out of his nightclub. Director Bob Clark does a real good job in keeping things moving along & does an excellent job in dealing with anti-semitism involving new student Brian Schwartz (Scott Colomby). This movie is a genuine classic. Simply the best!

4.0 out of 5 stars Get your pause and rewind button ready, February 17, 2000

This review is from: Porky's [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie is about a group of teen friends growing up in a small town Southern high school. Porky's is a bar in the backwoods. There are some funny parts. The best part of the movie that makes it worth buying is the peeping scene in the girls' shower, which I rewound again and again. The writing is okay and the acting is good. The lighting and sound were excellent and the extras did a fantastic job!

5.0 out of 5 stars American Masterpiece! Actually Canadian..., August 13, 2009
By
Bob Clark is the most underrated filmmaker of his generation. And this is the film that made him one of the most beloved. While early 80s comedies relied on star power and heavy gag-driven comedy, "Porky's" appeared with great realistic serio-comedy and a bunch of natural unknown actors.

The film follows horny teenagers. You'd expect it to just be stupid storytelling and non-stop tasteless humor. But Clark fleshed out the characters into broad, believable, flawed humans. Each one has an interesting backstory or purpose.

Very compelling in that "coming-of-age" way that doesn't take itself too seriously. Best description: A dirty "American Grafitti".

4.0 out of 5 stars still funny, February 7, 2000
This review is from: Porky's [VHS] (VHS Tape)
what made this film work was that there were no major stars and the actors had to pull it off with the script they had.and they did.this film has been very influential.think of many of the late 90's high school comedys.or a film like something about Mary.this film pre-dates the things we see on Wrestling&the Jerry Springer show.very cleaver film at the time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny and enjoyable teen sex comedy from the 80's., July 16, 2007
By
John Lindsey "John" (Socorro, New Mexico USA.) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
In the early 50's in Flordia, six sex crazed teen boys want their sexual cravings to be fulfiled even if they have to peek in the girl's locker room. They decides to go to a raunchy strip bar called "Porky's" where their erotic dreams can come true until the owner known as Porky himself boots them out, now the boys must come up with a clever scheme to get revenge.

Very entertaining and funny sex comedy from Bob Clark who gave us "Black Christmas (1974)" and "A Christmas Story" that became a critically bashed but unexpected box-office hit back in 1982. It gives the viewers the truth behind teen horniness back in the fifties in a sleazy and funny view, the film contains Kim Cattral long before she become a successful actress as a sexy cheerleader that howls whenever she's in heat. With the success of this movie, it lead to two sequels and the teen sex movie craze in it's wake with an upcoming remake by Howard Stern coming soon.

This Special Edition DVD has good picture and sound with very good extras like a full length audio commentary by the late Bob Clark, Trailers to this and "Porky's 2 and 3", Video Game Sales Pitch, TV Promos and two featurettes.

Also recommended: "American Pie Trilogy", "Revenge of the Nerds", "Road House", "Animal House", "Road Trip", "EuroTrip", "Van Wilder", "There's Something about Mary" and "The 40 Year Old Virgin".

4.0 out of 5 stars FORGET ''AMERICAN PIE'' WATCH THIS CULT CLASSIC, July 25, 2003
This review is from: Porky's (DVD)
IN THIS VERY RAUNCHY COMEDY, A GROUP OF TEENAGERS SNEAK INTO A STRIP CLUB AND WHEN THEY GET ROBBED OF THEIR MONEY BY THE OWNER, THEY ALL PLOT REVENGE. I'M WARNING YA, RIGHT NOW, PARENTS, IF YOU HAVE THIS MOVIE, KEEP THIS MOVIE SOMEWHERE YOUR KIDS CAN'T GET TO IT BECAUSE THIS MOVIE HAS A LOT OF NUDITY, INCLUDING MALE FRONTAL NUDITY. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, IT'S A STRAIGHT UP FUNNY MOVIE ABOUT TEENAGE LIFE IN THE 50S. EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, THIS MOVIE IS STILL FUNNY AND ENTERTAINING. FOLLOWED BY TWO SEQUELS.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Comedy thats still funny today, June 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Porky's [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Porky's is one of the greatest comedy films I've ever seen! Straight away at the begining of the film you are introduced to the one of the films main characters 'Pee Wee' who's a person who wants a girl but nobody wants him! the film is hilarious, rowdy and raunchy, and has the insight into the zany antics of six sex-mad American teenagers. They all decide to travel to Porky's, which is a club where amorous daydreaming can become a night-time reality, which turns into a big mistake and the film is based around getting there own back! The funniest part of the film for me is when 'Pee Wee' and two mets sneek into a secret passage in the wall to spy on the girls in the shower! (Pee Wee) gets very excited and somebody gets a little pain given to them because of there cheek! overall it's a great film which you should buy even if you haven't seen it, you will be well awarded! The film is a comedy of all comedy, and still is known as one of the greats!
