By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Porn 101 (Paperback)
Some adult writings are contained in this survey of eroticism, pornography and the first amendment which considers the foundations and debates surrounding sex and porn. Scholars' writings mingle with those who work in the porn industry from actresses to directors in this survey of the effects of pornography on audiences and its place in modern society.

Excellent book!,

This review is from: Porn 101 (Paperback)
As a student of human sexuality, this book is full of incredible information and testimony on the social aspects of pornography. If you are looking for a book OF pornography, look elsewhere - this is a book of academic discussion on pornogrpahy's role in society. A definite must-have for any scholar on human sexuality!

Very important,

Quote from this book:
"... the amount of pornography available in the United States is considerably greater than thirty or even twenty years ago. One can consider alone the increase in home video rental and sales... ... we can see that the incidence of rape declined markedly over these last twenty years from 1975 to 1995." This is very upsetting indeed. Think about what this means about the people who campaigns against porn. What do they really want?

Shallow and misleading story,
By Serena Lancaster (Arizona) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Porn 101 (Paperback)
As a female in the sex scene, I read this book out of interest. It gave me a sense of shallowness. It lacks alot of information that could be very useful to anyone with this type of interest. The book is geared towards people who know nothing about pornography, but are either curious or just bored. almost all people know that the 1st amendment right is the right to freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom to peaceful assemble. As for this book, nowhere in it can you find any of these, at least not where it's mentioned only in the title. I thought this book was plain stupid.

THE TRUTH .... THE NAKED TRUTH ABOUT "PORN",
By
This review is from: Porn 101 (Paperback)
Dont let the title scare you off. Yes, theres adult material within the softbound covers, but pull the cover way back, and youll discover a fascinating, controversial and significantcollection of essays based on papers delivered at a world conference on pornography held in Los Angeles in August 1998. Representatives of the legal and academic communities (including many internally-renowned scholars and First Amendment lawyers) and members of the adult entertainment industry join to cover a wide-ranging array of topics --- from erotic films to phone sex, censorship to feminism. This isnt for everyone, but anyone reading it will gain important insights.

This review is from: Porn 101 (Paperback)
After reading this book, I know nothing new about pornography that I didn't know before. My boyfriend and I are very open about sex, porn and adult entertainment. This book talks about Porn and how to excercise your first amendment rights-WOW! (brain overload)!!! It does nothing to tell about the experiences, accomplishments or long-term benefits of pornography. It does nothing to dispel the myths, of all porn stars degrading themselves or contracting diseases. It does nothing to educate someone from the outside who is looking in. The book is totally boring and lacks alot of information that people might be curious about.
