5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy, literate, lovely
I don't usually write reviews, but this is the loveliest of books, so lovely that I'm keeping it out on my coffee table for conversation starters. It looks so "dirty" but it's so literary and interesting. There's not a story or poem in here that isn't wonderful, and the humor is good too. I leave it out so that people can pick it up and turn to any page and be surprised,...

2.0 out of 5 stars From Porn to Poetry to Yawning
This anthology is not particularly erotic, literate, clever, amusing, or original. If you think it is, you need to read better erotica. There's a boring lecture about abstinence, a fishy story about a cat and canned tuna, a geography lesson that features a woman reciting the capitals of countries, and a simply uninspired recipe for a human strawberry shortcake. The...

It looks so "dirty" but it's so literary and interesting. There's not a story or poem in here that isn't wonderful, and the humor is good too. I leave it out so that people can pick it up and turn to any page and be surprised, and always interested. Stories like "River of Butterflies", "Blue in Cuba", and "Grady's Bar & Grille" are just amazing and original. Excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stories, January 8, 2002
This review is from: From Porn to Poetry: Clean Sheets Celebrates the Erotic Mind (Paperback)
These stories are great - "Tell Me A Story", "The Symbol For Intensity", "The Secrets of Humphrey Milquer" - better than most erotica I read. I like the mix of humor and information and sex in the book, and I quite liked the writing about "What's Abstinence Got To Do with It?" about teaching kids well. An excellent book, and great for reading on the train.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reading, January 17, 2003

This review is from: From Porn to Poetry: Clean Sheets Celebrates the Erotic Mind (Paperback)
This is an excellent anthology, with well-written stories, sexy poems, and funny essays. It's probably the best erotic collection I've read in ages -- thoughtful, soulful, hot where it needs to be, but overall the quality of it comes across like high-lit, not throw-away smut, or sloppy like some of the "best of" books have been lately.

An outstanding book - I read it on a long flight and had no idea how we could have arrived so fast. Great stories, smart writing, and so much heart and honesty to it all.

A good mix of writing here -- some sexy, some funny, some sad, all of them quite interesting and fun to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy, classy, hot, wild, and true, May 11, 2005
This review is from: From Porn to Poetry: Clean Sheets Celebrates the Erotic Mind (Paperback)
I think that what I most enjoy about the "From Porn to Poetry" books, as well as CleanSheets.com, the magazine they originate from, is that you can say something like "sexy, classy, hot, wild, and true" and be accurate in your description. The editor's name, Susannah Indigo, represents authenticity in writing to me, and all of her projects that I've read have been a cut above ordinary erotica. The mix of material in this book ranges from the down and dirtiest stories to elegant, sexual poems, and there's nowhere else you can read that kind of pleasurable mix. The subtitle is "Clean Sheets Celebrates the Erotic Mind," and that's how it felt to me after reading the book - like my "erotic mind" had been thoroughly and joyously "celebrated," honored, turned-on, and was raring to go.

Nothing in the book resembles cheap "Penthouse" stories; stunning stories by writers like Kim Addonizio, Maggie Gray, Mike Kimera, Greg Wharton, and Susannah Indigo herself simply leave you begging for more. I can't recommend these books enough to anyone interested in erotica; I've gifted friends with them and they all agree. They wonder, in fact, where I found them, since there's nothing in big bookstores done as well as this. Thank heavens for the web and the ability for small book publishers to put this cornucopia of erotica out there for us!

I love the mixture of fiction and non-fiction and poetry in this book. All of it is sexy, interesting, fresh and new. Highly recommended, and a great gift for a love to get them talking about what they like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy, excellent book!, December 10, 2001

This review is from: From Porn to Poetry: Clean Sheets Celebrates the Erotic Mind (Paperback)
I love Clean Sheets, and I love this book! Stories and poems and a very funny sex-story about an insect, of all things -- all of it together is as good as the Clean Sheets Magazine ever gets, and it has so much in it it's better than any Yellow Silk or any other anthology! There's a poem about "This is how it feels" (when you go down on me) that is probably the sexiest single poem I have ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, October 9, 2002

What a great surprise to read an anthology where everything in it is excellent. I couldn't _wait_ to turn the page to each new story or poem. The "Symbol For Intensity" and the "Tell Me a Story" stories stand out in my memory the most, but everything else was also a good read.

Great reading, and a gorgeous babe on the cover!(I *think* I know who that is, but it doesn't say) I don't usually read poetry, but these are really sexy poems. I'm only half way through reading, but I had to stop after "The Symbol For Intensity" and cool off, because that's the hottest story I think I've ever read. --Jon
