Worthless lopsided pseudo debate, January 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pornography (Revised) (Contemporary Issues (Prometheus)) (Paperback)
The editors of this book must have a background in mainstream mass media. I say this because this book reads much like a "debate" that would appear in said format. It gives the pretense of examining an issue but falls way short. Instead of inviting a whole spectrum of perspectives the debate is framed in the narrow of fashion. What we have here is a debate between ultra conservatives and moderate conservatives. The editors have to be either highly biased or simply dimwitted and unimaginative to have gone to the length of putting together a book examining pornography as a contemporary issue AND NOT HAVE SOMEBODY WHO IS ACTUALLY IN THE PORN INDUSTRY!!! Any outsider who should happen across this book would come away with the perception that porn in America is something consumed by only a small group of degenerates as defined by christian nazis and other prudes. Seeing that this is a revised editon there is a possibility that the editors will have an opportunity to show that they can allow a fair and impartial debate of the issue. Perhaps including the voices of some articulate porn insiders such as Nina Hartley or Bill Margold or Susie Bright would freshen up any future volumes.
