Book Description

August 2000
Introduced in 1949, the 356 is the one model every Porsche enthusiast would love to own, a simply styled performance classic whose design and engineering became cornerstones of the marque's success. This reprint of the colorful 356 photohistory which first appeared in 1992 charts the evolution and development of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche's groundbreaking design, offers discussion and images of the rare models, and examines the prolific motorsport successes of RS Spyders, the 356 offspring which became extremely popular on U.S. sports car circuits during the 1950s. All 356s through the final 1964 model year are depicted with period photography, design diagrams, and modern color images of factory-original models.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maltby-Friedman Team score a WIN for "PORSCHE: 356 / Spyder", September 28, 2000

This review is from: Porsche 356 & RS Spyders (Paperback)
While scores of books on Porsche Type 356 and RS Spyders have now been written...this experienced author (Maltby) has teamed with a truly professional automotive photographer (Friedman) to capture the phenomenal Porsche 356's and RS Spyder's in racing action and detail. Many photographs have never appeared in any previously published materials. This book is guaranteed to take any Porsche 356 / 550 Spyder enthusiast back to the time when sportscar racing was "pure". The photographs reveal the kind of spirit these marvelous creations from Zuffenhausen produced in the early days of Porsche. Exceptional reading & photography!!

Although I have and frequently peruse a number of books related to the Porsche 356, Maltby's offers factory photographs I have never seen before! Great photos, interesting and concise text. Anyone interested in the 356 would enjoy this book.
