5.0 out of 5 stars great resource for 911 owner or anyone interested in buying
Adrian's book is a must have for any and all Porsche 911 1989-1994 (factory designation 964) owners, and especially for anyone considering the purchase of a '89-94 Porsche 911. It is worth many times it's cost. It contains nearly all the information that I wish I had readily available eight years ago when I first purchased my '90 964 targa. Not only would it have saved...

3.0 out of 5 stars Breadth not Depth
Something about everything about the Porsche 911 Type 964 but nothing much about anything in particular. What I mean is it has the breadth about everything about the 964 but not the depth about any particular area you might be interested about the car.

If you are totally new to the car you would get a very broad impression about the car but if you are familiar with the...

Not only would it have saved me immense amounts of time and research, but it would and does help me better understand the systems, repairs, modifications and maintence of this spectacular car. The style, content, presentation, pictures and opinions make this a unique publication for 911 owners from 89-94. Adrian's book reflects his passion for the 964 and in part the passion that was designed and built into the 964 and appreciated by those of us that drive them. My only complaint is that no one has written a similar labor of love for all of us who own a 951 (944 turbo). Perhaps if we pre-purchase copies he might begin the multi year effort?

As a new owner of a porsche C2,it was great to find someone who could answer many of my questions. Great information and great fun to read if you have an interest in this relatively rare car.
I'm glad Adrian took the time to collect this information. It is a great companion to the workshop manual.
Thanks for the effort.
Ray

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have a 964 you must have this book, August 18, 2006

This review is from: Porsche 911 (964) Enthusiast's Companion: Carrera 2, Carrera 4, and Turbo 1989-1994 (Paperback)
This book is too informative and useful to NOT be on every 964 owner's shelf. It covers maintenance & troubleshooting, model specifics, purchasing, pre-purchase guides, performance mods, and lots more.
The book is replete with pictures, diagrams, and illustrations that help any 964 owner understand the inner workings of a complicated but wonderful car. Adrian Streather has brought together a wealth of technical info on this car that is rivaled only by the wizards in Zuffenhausen.
I highly recommend it for enthusiasts, the shadetree mechanic 964 owner, as well as the ones who take their car to the service center for every maintenance task.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best "all around" book for 964 series, September 13, 2005

This review is from: Porsche 911 (964) Enthusiast's Companion: Carrera 2, Carrera 4, and Turbo 1989-1994 (Paperback)
Not a shop manual, not a history book, but somewhere in between. Great compilation of information for all models of the 964 (89-94 911). Differences between models in this series as well as what set this series apart from the others. Things that work well on the cars, things that go wrong, maintenance schedules and some DIY maintenance stuff, advice on upgrades/mods. If the newer Porsches are out of your price range (remember to factor in relatively high maintenance costs) and you are "stumbling" into this year range, you should get this book so you know what your are shopping for. Worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for any 911 owner or enthusiast, January 7, 2009

If you are a 911 owner or an enthusiast, make sure you get you hands on this book. This is a must-have for your reference library.

The only bad thing is that with the level of detail it makes you think you can buy some genuine Porsche tools and do any work on your car yourself. ;-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great general reference for 964s, July 22, 2008

Not a lot to add to what many of the others have written. The book in addition to being a good general reference to some factory specs and some aftermarket setups and parts is a pretty darn good read. Can't say that for a lot of reference books. It is not a substitute for the factory service manual. There are many things I thought should have been in the book but wasn't, given the fanfare of it being the bible of 964s.

I found that the Technical Data Without Guesswork was handier for quick tech reference to specs, capacities and torque values. It also covers a little bit of theory of operation.

Streathers is more in depth along those lines and it picks up where the factory manual leaves off.

My only REAL complaint is the binding of this book. The pages seperated from the spine at page 372 and continue to migrate the page seperation with each use. I'm thoroughly disgusted with that as I will surely have completely loose pages before long. The binding is simply too weak to support the number of pages which is 636.

I have had a 964 model Porsche for about two years and now want to get to know the car much better. This book is perfect as it describes and gives some idea of the repair situation for DIY. Great !
