A good overview of the 924 mechanics,
By fdeville@village.uunet.be (Brussels, Belgium) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Porsche 924 '76'82 (Haynes Manuals) (Paperback)
You get a good overview of the different parts of a 924, including the turbo (931). I like the clear way things are described. I think however that the photos in the book should be in colour. But at this price, maybe I'm asking too much. I would buy it again (and I will probably for the 944)

Great manual - MUST HAVE for 924 owners,
By Derek L. Mccallister "Corse Per Vita!" (Central Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Porsche 924 '76'82 (Haynes Manuals) (Paperback)
Since I was a little kid I loved the 924. I recently picked one up to restore. It was an absolute mess and once I finally got it to my place I was overwhelmed and pretty intimidated, I won't lie.
I have bought haynes manuals for all my vehicles that I own and found them to be great. I finally looked on amazon and low and behold was a haynes manual for the 924. I was SO glad they had one. Now the differences between a newer haynes manual and these older ones will be less pictures and less diagrams. I would rate it a full star rating, however, due to the lack of diagrams for vacuum routing and due to some tutorials not having any pictures, I rated it a tad lower. If you are mechanically inclined in any way shape or form you'll have no hard time understanding this book. If you are a new person learning mechanics and the automotive side of wrenching you will find that these books are very intuitive and interesting and you'll learn things pretty quickly. This book will follow through on everything from ignition to the fuel system to suspension and even electrical and a lot more. Here are the pros and cons... Good: This book has a lot of diagrams, tutorials, explanations, part descriptions and even what parts do, wiring diagrams, troubleshooting FAQs and solutions and a lot more. Bad: Has not really anything on vacuum line routing which is a necessity for the CIS Fuel Injection on these cars. On top of this book, I would highly recommend a book on the CIS injection system by Bosch as you will need to learn about it to learn to work on this car. However, you won't find it a problem to look around your engine bay and work on things that you didn't understand before. On top of this, things it explains that you are having a hard time finding will come together when you finally see some pictures and what it looks like. And most importantly, this manual will show you how to do the work /right/ and will take the guess work out of working on your 924 whether it be something simple like replacing a bulb, or full on troubleshooting your fuel system and ignition system. In short, this book is great for those who have never dealt with any type of german engineering or a mechanical fuel injection system and who needs to know how to take it all apart and put it back together again. If you've never dealt with a haynes manual before, now is a great time to get addicted to them.

Fine for small tasks, but anything major, get the shop manuals.,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Porsche 924 '76'82 (Haynes Manuals) (Paperback)
Like the title says, this manual is cheap, and easy to use for things like "what tools will i need to do this job?" or "generally what is involved in this job". Anything major however and there are gaping holes in the directions, and massive jumps in logic. Also there is a plethora of warnings about simpleton things like "oh be careful when draining gasoline" but a dearth of warnings on things like "if you twist the in line fuel filter the wrong way you will twist a metal fuel line which will mean replacing the whole fule line and cost you abour 50x the price of that fuel filter". It's sort of like asking your next door neighbor shade tree mechanic for advice - take it with a grain of salt.
