Absolute fantastic book!,

Okay, so maybe it IS another book on the 911...how could it be any better or any worse than any of the others? Without delving into too many details, allow me to say that author Patrick Paternie really pulled off a tough task: putting together a concise, and yet, fresh history of the Porsche 911. By incorporating his trademark humble, albeit knowledgeable, voice with factory photos and a few new images, he has assembled a very easy to understand history. His sidebars are perhaps the most informative. From a breakdown of "Who are all these guys named Ferdinand?" to "How does a 901 transmission and 901 engine add up to a 911?" the several sidebars are designed to dispell some common misconceptions or to interpret some often confused history. The photographs are pure gold. Naturally, Porsche enthusiasts will recognize several standard factory views, and even some hallmark photography from fellow Porsche author, Randy Leffingwell. Nevertheless, Paternie has included several of his own shots as well as a nice selection of 911 advertising which help to put the several evolutionary forms in context. Top all this praise with the fact that this book costs less than $...!! Great value. I highly recommend it. It might get lost on my several shelves of Porsche books, but it won't be forgotten. This one made an impression on me (I had owned it for about 6 months before "discovering" it on my shelf while researching an article on the Porsche 904. I lost my train of thought for the next 2 hours as I reclinded to read it cover to cover. Simply put, it was the most enjoyable book on Porsche 911s that I have read in years!).

I am not a Big Porsche Fan, (due to the Nazi Connection By Dr.Porsche Whether Porschephiles want to admit it or not through the excuse of "wanting funding"for his little sportscar,Instead making the Peoples Car-Yes The Volkswagen was concieved by Hitler and Put into Reality by DR.Porsche) I got this book, Because I like the 911, I am disappointed as with most Porsche books that shows little or no coverage of the 930 slantnose, the book shows 1 or 2 slant noses, and some history about questionable owners, and how it was a drug dealers car, and there's many imtation slants out there. Other Than That, Decent Porsche book on the "HOTROD VW" AKA Porsche.

If you're buying this a gift for someone who otherwise knows nothing of 911's, then go ahead. Otherwise, you'll most likely want a book with more depth. The pitcures are very nice, but the coverage of each model is very light. There is almost no information here at all for someone looking to buy used porsches. Case in point - the author is very negative on the 964 model (89 through 93), and there is not one photo of this car - while there are 5 of a white RS America! OK, OK, we get the point - you hate how the 964 looks. Besides the fact that readers may disagree, why eliminate 4 model years from the photos? This book isn't bad, but it's far from great.
