5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for Porsche 993 owners!
Finally, a great book for a great car, the Porsche 993. Adrian has done a teriffic job of compiling all the information you could possibly want to know about the Porsche 993, the ultimate air-cooled Porsche. I own a Porsche 993 Carrera 4S, and have really been searching for a good book on the 993. Most of the books I have seen are just your usual, glossy, coffee table...

2.0 out of 5 stars Bits and pieces of info - sorely disjointed
I liked the cover, but upon getting the book I was sadly disappointed. The book is a collection of photographs and stats, but hardly any deep information. It is mostly one-sentence observations, but hardly much past that. Don't bother with this book. There is no reason that it is 688 pages - it is totally filler.

Instead get:

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for Porsche 993 owners!, February 5, 2006
This review is from: Porsche 993 Essential Companion (Paperback)
Finally, a great book for a great car, the Porsche 993. Adrian has done a teriffic job of compiling all the information you could possibly want to know about the Porsche 993, the ultimate air-cooled Porsche. I own a Porsche 993 Carrera 4S, and have really been searching for a good book on the 993. Most of the books I have seen are just your usual, glossy, coffee table books, with lots of neat photos, but no meat and substance in respect to technical information. This book has a wealth of information, very well presented, in a concise manner and accompanied by photos and diagrams. It really tells you all you need to know on this wonderful car, and am sure that it will also save you money in the long run, whether you are looking for a used 993, or are considering tuning, or want to do an oil change yourself. All about the engine, running gear, suspension, wheels, etc. This one single book is better and has more useful information than all the previous books on Porsche I ever owned! Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the Only Book you will need!, March 21, 2006

I realize that this is the only book currently on the market for the 993, aside from spending a small fortune on the actual shop manuals (on CD's), but after receiving the book and spending several nights giving it a good read, I have come to the conclusion that someone will be hard pressed to put together anything so accurate and complete. This is a must for any 993 owner!

5.0 out of 5 stars The title does not exaggerate..., August 24, 2006

This review is from: Porsche 993 Essential Companion (Paperback)
There are two types of 993 owners...the driving enthusiast and the poseur. For the latter group, this book would be a waste of time. For the former, however, this is indeed an "essential companion." Whether the owner's interest in his car is the history, the esoterica of 993 numerology and variation, and/or owner-maintenance and repair, this book covers the ground with alacrity. This is the Porsche equivalent to John Muir's well-known VW book, and as such is an important part of the 993 enthusiast's reference library.

5.0 out of 5 stars needed addition to 993 repair literature, June 26, 2007

Overall, a good addition to the literature. Not so detailed that it stands ALONE as a repair resource, but with Pelican, Excellence, Panorama and the various web sites offering 993 information, adds more complete information for the do-it yourself mechanic. Of my reference books, this is perhaps the most comprehensive, specifically for the 993 (other than the factory manuals). An easy read, usually clearly written, yet at times too abbreviated. (Cabrio top repair, for example) First 100 pages deal with "styles" of 993 offered. Contains torque specs. Some info is nothing more than "owners manual" info. Nontheless, I am happy to have added this volume to my library!

4.0 out of 5 stars A book that Porsche should have included with each 993., January 25, 2007

The owner's manual is ok for the driver who wants to know how to set the clock and, maybe, check the oil. This book is the only one I've seen that truly delves into the intricacies of the finest 911 ever built. A must own for any proud 993 owner who wants to know more about how his or her car operates and definitely for the Do-It-Yourself tinkerer who performs maintenance themselves. There is some info here that I have not found in any other place.

This is the 993 bible; if you have any interest in the 993 you must own this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on the market for the Porsche 993, November 5, 2006

If you buy this book, you better enjoy reading, the book is massive. The layout and organization is very good, easy to understand and the index makes it easy to specifically find what you are looking for. The only drawback is the book was written in Queens English which made it a little interesting when the book referred to such things as a "bonnet" instead of a hood, etc. The book provided the correct mix of technical info in easy to understand layman terms. You will not be sorry you purchased this book.

I had heard about this book for some time and finally bought it after reading many good reviews. It is very detailed and has a lot of information that is difficult to find elsewhere about the 993.

5.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for 993 Owners, November 9, 2006

Adrian Streather has compiled the complete owners manual. If it isn't covered between the covers it doesn't exist. The pictures are spot on to assist in understanding the text. This book is not an option but a necessity for the 993 owner.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive resource, July 2, 2011
This review is from: Porsche 993 Essential Companion (Paperback)
There exists no greater resource for the 993, Streather's books are well known for their vast depth of information. If you own one of these cars, do not hesitate to buy this book. Some people question why its photos aren't in color...well that's because there are hundreds of pictures in this book and if they were all in color it would cost $150.
