Irish drinking songs set to a punky beat,
By Modern Fix (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Port City Rebels (Audio CD)
These are Irish drinking songs set to a punky beat, with other elements thrown in. By a bunch of guys from Canada. Sound awful? Well, it's not. It's pretty fun actually, as The New Breed manage to cram hook after hook into each track, ensuring they'll be rattling around your head for days. The tunes are raucous and alcohol-fueled, and there will be countless comparisons drawn between Flogging Molly and The Swingin' Utters as well. At just eight tracks the fun is over quickly, but you'll probably end up listening to "Whiskey" three or four times straight through, so that makes the album seem a bit longer. There's plenty of variation between the songs too, as mandolins and acoustic guitars get plenty of time in the spotlight. Definitely fun and definitely worth your time.
