5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly well balanced and fantastic
Wow, I did not expect to like this album as much as I do. The first listening was amazing and it keeps getting better from there. It is hard to classify in "if you like this, then you'll also like" way, but...

This album has a wonderful mix of Sublime, Pepper (without the punk influences), Bad Ronald, Planting Seeds, Incubus, Ballyhoo!, Gym Class Heroes and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great album, but incorrect labeling-NOT explicit
This of course is an excellent album (5 Stars!),and any Dirty Heads fan would agree, however this is labeled as explicit when it is in fact the edited version!! Amazon promptly took care of me, and directed me to the original version. Enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly well balanced and fantastic, April 1, 2010

Wow, I did not expect to like this album as much as I do. The first listening was amazing and it keeps getting better from there. It is hard to classify in "if you like this, then you'll also like" way, but...

This album has a wonderful mix of Sublime, Pepper (without the punk influences), Bad Ronald, Planting Seeds, Incubus, Ballyhoo!, Gym Class Heroes and of course, Kottonmouth Kings. The music is full and rewarding, the lyrics are well written and enjoyable. If anything some of the songs run a little long and get repetitive towards the end, but that is me looking for problems. I have not enjoyed an album in this genre in quite a while and I highly recommend it.

I would list favorite songs, but I don't think I could pull any out, they work together and compliment each other the way it takes all of the ingredients n a soup to make it right. If you aren't sure, listen to Insomnia, Sails to The Wind, Viva la Vida and the single, Lay Me Down. If you like any ONE of these songs, I recommend the whole album. It will only make you appreciate the others more.

Two thumbs up! I'm ready for summer, get this album and you will be too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great First Album, May 8, 2010

I had a chance to see this band open up for Sublime with Rome at the house of Blues in Boston. They put on a great show. I usually don't like a band the first time I hear them, but they sounded great. They are a hip-hop/ reggae band with 2 singers/ rappers. The first minute you hear them you will realize they are influenced by Sublime. Which is a great thing because Sublime happens to be my favorite band all time. There are some great catchy guitar riffs with some heavy bass lines that will put your stereo system to the test. The lyrics are very strong and written from the heart. For me,there are about 6 great songs on this album. More than half of the album is written more towards the females. So the ladies should like this album a little more than the guys. If you like sublime, you should definitely give this band a try. You will not be disappointed.

I've loved this band since the first time I heard them in "Surf's Up"! The record is fantastic, from the 1st to the last track....If you like 311, Sublime, Beasties, Pepper, old school reggae you'll love this band! Favorite tracks are Believe, Shine, Stand Tall and Chelsea, but the whole album is great!

This is my new favorite CD. Of all time. The Dirty heads have PACKED this CD with 23 friggin' awesome songs and they're practically giving it away! If you pirate this CD instead of buying it, you have NO conscience! This CD is really, really good! Seriously.... buy it now.

Oh, and my copy is the explicit content version as advertised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dirty Heads gain a new fan, September 18, 2010
This review is from: Any Port in a Storm (Spec) (Audio CD)
I saw this CD as I was browsing some CD's at my local music store. It was the name that caught my attention. I added this to the list of bands to check out when arrived home that evening. I was pleasently suprised as I use to listen to sublime heavily back in the day. The CD has 22 tracks and a video Download for Stand Tall which I have yet to figure out how to get.

Value: 22 studio tracks for this list price is a great deal. It's actually a double CD. Not your standard 10-14 tracks then disk 2 with live stuff and videos.

Quality: I still can not believe that this band had put 22 great songs on one CD. CD's that are great beginning to end are rare these days. I typically end up skipping a few. All tracks seem to have their own feel to them leaving the listner with a fresh sound for each track. I love the mix of music styles this band brings to the table. Look up the band and listen to the 3 most popular songs "Believe" "Stand Tall" and "Lay me Down" just to name a few. If you dont like those you wont like the band, however I think if you made it this far you will love them.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Album that is much needed in Music today!, June 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Ill add more tto the review later, but i wanted to add a few paragraphs, points quickly so people BUY this awesome album.

Do you like the band Sublime (which is playing now as Sublime with Rome with Rome singing in Bradley's place-RIP bradley), do you like pepper, slightly stoopid, reggae, stoner reggae/rap, Beach/island/Cali sounds? If any of those apply you should do yourself a favor and purchase this album, and as a five dollar mp3 download you getting a steal!

It is very rare that i can enjoy and 4-5 star every song on an album-Dirty heads does just that! The album has 23 songs! 23! And every single song is great, i am not kidding. But for someone coming into dirty heads not familiar with the sound, which is a genre twist in my opinion, rap/reggae, with alternative sounds, and brings you to the beach, warm vibrant beats. Great summer album, and perfect with the beach, and surfing, skating, or if your too old to do that, sit and have a few drinks in your lawn chair type of groovy tunes.

The song, Neighborhood, stand tall, shine, and lay me down have great hooks/chorus-and i dare you resist singing with them! Lay me down featurs Rome from Sublime with rome, great tune. Also if you ever watched the cartoon surf's up dirty heads had the song stand tall on the movie, great song! But as a long time lover of dirty heads, buy the album, five bucks, come on cheap skate, you won't regret it. i shared the album with my ancient co-worker who also enjoyed the songs, you will too!

4.0 out of 5 stars The album is good and a little bit different than the norm, September 3, 2009
This review is from: Any Port in a Storm (Audio CD)
The Good
"Neighborhood" recalls an early Beastie Boys sound mixed with upbeat reggae sounds. "Stand Tall" keeps the reggae vibe flowing with acoustic guitars an a melodic vocal. "Taint" has a catchy chorus full of melody and steel drum beats. "Easy" bounces along with acoustic strumming and rhythmic drums. "Chelsea" is a lovelorn ballad which deviates briefly from the reggae sound in favor of a peace and love hippy feel.

The Bad
Nothing notable

The Verdict
This isn't the sort of album I would normally review, because ultimately it is not a rock album. However, the album is good and a little bit different than the norm. I thought it would be worth mentioning. The Dirty Heads could be compared to 311 with more emphasis on reggae than rock. The rap-style lyrics work well with the warm rhythmic backgrounds. Even when the group ventures into melodic territory, they make it work.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!!!, January 30, 2009
This review is from: Any Port in a Storm (Audio CD)
I love this whole cd, its a laid back mellow type of jam. I bought the cd at the beginning of january & i still listen to it every day. I first listened to their music on youtube, and I instantly fell in love. Personally, I like the live versions on youtube better than the studio recordings, but its still a great cd. Hopefully the guys will come to OHIO soon so I can see them in person!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime? Beastie Boys? Jack Johnson? DIRTY HEADS!!!!, September 24, 2008
This review is from: Any Port in a Storm (Audio CD)
I love this bands previous releases and this CD is no different. They have hugely dynamic sound that is very reminiscent of the Beastie Boys accented by Sublime and a little Jack Johnson thrown in for flavor. These guys are going to go far. Mark my words.
