5.0 out of 5 stars I read and lived the book..., December 17, 2000

Rena Hopson (Moses Lake, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Port of Two Brothers (English and Bengali Edition) (Paperback)
My father wrote this book lest we not fully understand the purpose of his work. By reading this book I was able to grasp the true meaning of life's deepest spiritual fulfillment which enables me to cope with all the inconsistencies and insecurities that I encounter -wether it be in a remote jungle or the busy streets of a modern city. I recommend this book not only for the pleasure of my father's loving humor, but also for its' everlasting repercussions.

This review is from: Port of Two Brothers (English and Bengali Edition) (Paperback)
Wow! An amazing recount of actual experiences of life in the Amazon! Capitivating and a truly remarkable story! Very good for those who like reading of true life adventures. Easy to read but not easy to put down! So glad Mr. Schlener shared his experiences with the rest of us! All too often we take for granted our luxuries of esstentials, like, electricity, bathroom facilities, and cooking accessories! Everyone in the U.S.A should read this book! What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful family.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read book for both young and old., March 11, 2001

This review is from: Port of Two Brothers (English and Bengali Edition) (Paperback)
When you read this book it is as if you have experienced this advanture right along with them. One could almost taste the food, feel the heat of the sun and hear the thunder in the storms. Not only could one picture the beauty of God's handiwork but felt His presence guiding and protecting this man and his family.

The "Port of Two Brothers", is a wonderful bedtime story for those little ones, good research book for students, and totally entertaining for the older generation.

This is a wonderful and unique story!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Missionary Hardcores, April 6, 2002
By

This review is from: Port of Two Brothers (English and Bengali Edition) (Paperback)
These true accounts really show what God's work is all about and lets the rest of America feel how cozy it really is here inside these borders. Best missionary life story out there with the "just telling it how it was" style, and it doesn't allow the reader to be led into boredom for one line. Definitely worth reading, and the pictures are cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Exciting And Scary As A Christian Fiction Thriller, You Will Feel You Are There!, February 18, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Port of Two Brothers (English and Bengali Edition) (Paperback)
I purchased and read this book after being told about it from my sister who works in the hospital where the Author's wife is a patient. My sister has been blessed with their conversations and he gave her a copy of the book.It is a very inspirational book, but also points out the harrowing experiences missionaries can face. They often have no clue to what they are getting into. Made me think of young recruits going into the military. I certainly hope that our missionaries know more of what to expect these days! Will definately not bore the reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book two, February 11, 2011
This review is from: Port of Two Brothers (English and Bengali Edition) (Paperback)
I have just read Paul Schlener's SECOND PUBLISHED BOOK, "When Sea Billows Roll" the is the story before the Port of Two Brothers. It tells you how he survived,as a teen in WWII and through the typhoon Cobra and how it shaped his decision to go the the Green Hell of the Amazon Jungle. This book is available at [...] This book is very rich in history and quite patriotic too. I strongly recommend it if you enjoyed the Port of Two Brothers. Especially for those WWII Vets. in the family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story by a great storyteller, February 2, 2011
By
This review is from: Port of Two Brothers (English and Bengali Edition) (Paperback)
Paul Schlener is a great storyteller, and with an interesting life, he has a lot of great storys to tell! He and his brother John took their young families to one of the most remote places in the world to live and work, and this book tells their story. From living in community with bugs, critters and curious neighbors to becoming the default dentist for whole tribes of people with no prior training; from raising kids in a culture completely different than their roots and without modern convenience to the harrowing dangers of rain forest living, their more than 40 years in the Amazon jungles of Brazil produced some wild and wonderful experiences, and Paul's engaging style and dry humor bring them to life with such vivid reality, you won't want to put the book down. An unforgetable pageturner in a day when so many "famous" biographies get read more because of political correctness than quality. Whether or not you share Paul's strong faith and family values, you will find this book highly entertaining and a great read!
