5.0 out of 5 stars great for a tablet pc
From the reviews this seems to be a love it or hate it product. People seem to give it a five or a one. I am one giving it a five. I got this to see if I would be able to put my tablet pc at an angle to make it easy to write on. It works perfectly. I like the fact that it is adjustable because then it can be used for the tablet pc at the lowest setting, a laptop with...

1.0 out of 5 stars Total $32 for BAD Product
Porta-Book as seen on TV.
Yes, $32 after shipping for the Porta Book as well as another $6.95 s/h for the "free" wi-fi-finder which didn't show up yet.

Does NOT let laptop breathe as promised. There needs to be holes in the area where the laptop rests. It's a solid area hence no air flow at all.

The lip covers laptop's accessory plugin areas. Ex:mic & headset plus speaker.
The plastic is flimsy & is already cracked where the adjustable arm is attached. A total rip off that took two weeks to arrive (without the "free" wi-fi finder) Don't waste your money!

Terrible product. Cheap, cheap plastic. The edges aren't big enough to keep the laptop from sliding around. I can't stress this enough: do not buy this.

1.0 out of 5 stars such a dissapointment, September 17, 2008
This review is from: PortaBook 10086 Multifunctional Laptop Book Document Stand (10086) (Office Product)
A few months back i went to this portabook "As seen on TV" web site and bought it, they then put me on a waiting list, had to wait a month just to get it. Once i got it and attemped to set it up to use it with my heavy 17 in' notebook/laptop... when i went to ajust it to a tilt position the cheap plastic it was made out of broke on me, and i ended up sending it back to the manufacturer it came from, it was a major disapointment.

1.0 out of 5 stars The cheapest thing I've bought on TV yet!, January 28, 2009

I bought PortaBook to keep the hot laptop off my lap. After waiting a month to get it, I was extremely disappointed when I finally did receive it. It's made out of super cheap plastic and doesn't even have hinges! You just fold the plastic to prop it up! This is by far the cheapest piece of garbage I've ever bought from TV. I'm not returning it only because I can still use it as a lame clipboard for my papers. If you're looking to get a laptop stand, DON'T waste your money on this. Go with a better one! Besides, I don't see how it can even support a heavy laptop. It's so thin that it practically buckled when I put mine on it. BOO! And to make it worse, I never got the "free" Wi-Fi finder that was supposed to come with it.

Do yourself a favor and DON'T buy this. The plastic isn't sturdy and is very flimsy. I purchased this, set my laptop on it and it broke after 3 days. I noticed after three days the laptop was sitting crooked and after further investigation found the plastic cracked just from the pressure of my laptop. I have a macbook pro and it is not excessively heavy what so ever. Buy at your own risk. I'm returning mine.

This laptop stand is useful as it demonstrates in its commercial. Great for your lap or tabletop. It also works well as a book/magazine easel. The one drawback in design is the raised lip on the edge which keeps it from sliding off prevents users from using some laptop multi-port slots and the microphone and earphone connections for Dell Inspiron 1525. Only time will tell if the adjustable stand will be durable to last several years since it is thin plastic material. It also needs some ventilation holes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Portabook is junk, January 27, 2009

My experience is similar to many others. The Portabook looks like strong metal in the TV ad but it is cheap plastic. The lip is not big enough to hold my HP laptop and it slides off, even with the rubber bands holding it in place. Mine arrived with a broken leg and I had to send it back. Save yoursef time, $$$$ and aggravation. Don't buy it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Handy, but cheap plastic ruins it, January 27, 2011
This review is from: PortaBook 10086 Multifunctional Laptop Book Document Stand (10086) (Office Product)
This is a handy little item. I like to use for reading xeroxes and printed out hard docs. It's a little flimsy for books, esp. heavy ones. Being able to store stuff inside is great. The one problem, and it's a biggy, is the cheap plastic, as others have noted. In particular, the "hinges" on the arms that hold the surface up are really just thin bendy segments in the plastic. It didn't take long for these to snap. Seriously, there must be a better way! Also, do not be fooled by the item title: it is definitely not designed for laptop PCs.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for a tablet pc, November 23, 2010
This review is from: PortaBook 10086 Multifunctional Laptop Book Document Stand (10086) (Office Product)
From the reviews this seems to be a love it or hate it product. People seem to give it a five or a one. I am one giving it a five. I got this to see if I would be able to put my tablet pc at an angle to make it easy to write on. It works perfectly. I like the fact that it is adjustable because then it can be used for the tablet pc at the lowest setting, a laptop with the keyboard tilted at the second setting and for an ebook reader at the highest setting. Although the plastic seems a little flimsy it is actually quite sturdy (my tablet PC weighs about 4.5 lbs) and holds steady when I am writing on it. The advantage is that it is quite lightweight so it is easy to put in my computer case. I am going to buy a few more to keep one at home and one at work and one to carry around on trips.

I love this product. It is perfect for holding my kindle. The plastic was a bit slippery against the kindle so I covered it with the rubberized shelf liner cut to the size of my kindle and it is perfect.

It is too light to be that useful with a heavy computer though.
