5.0 out of 5 stars pretty happy January 1, 2010
I was flip flopping back and forth from whether to buy this or the Eglu, but after talking to a rep at the McMurray Hatchery who owned an eglu, she said she wished she would've got this one instead. Now that I have it, I have to say that I really like this coop because a) it looks nice, b) takes up very little space and c) I like the ease of cleaning and collecting eggs that this coop gives. I was able to put it together in about an hour and I have minimal woodworking skills (hence why I didn't make one myself). I decided not to move it around my yard (that may change) and instead keep it in one spot of my backyard. I also stapled the same kind of chicken wire to the bottom of the coop just in case a predator tried digging under and in. I then put a few bags of construction sand on the bottom to make cleaning it easy. I just scoop out the poop with a cat box scooper, dump it in the compost and I'm done! the girls also enjoy dust bathing in the sand. The description says that it's big enough for 4 chickens, but I think it could really only house 3 tops. I have a RIR and a barred rock and I think they are considered to be big girls in the chicken world so they have just enough space to be comfortable. My feeders take up a good deal of run space too so if they are cooped up all day that would not afford them much room to play. Overall, we are all very happy with the coop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Star Urban Coop February 11, 2012
By Nancy
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this coop in July of 2010 and hesitated to submit a review until I had tested it for at least a year. It's now been over 18 months. I am happy to be able to submit an extremely favorable review.

Assembly is kid stuff. I had one problem initially, submitted a memo to the purchaser and got a prompt response. Turns out, you have to be smarter than a chicken and actually read the instructions! It went together in about an hour.

As with some of the other reviewers, I would hesitate to put 5 standard hens in the coop. I house three bantams and although I let them out to free range my back yard, I feel comfortable that they have enough space if I am out of town and have to be "cooped up" for a few days.

The coop is easy to clean. I use a wide putty knife and small whisk broom to clean the roost and ladder and then a narrow rake and cat litter shovel to clean the bottom. Everything goes into a bucket and into my composter! I clean daily so as to keep my neighbors happy but it takes just a few minutes. I've also scrubed the interior every 6 months with a mild water/Clorox mixture and let it completely air dry for the day. The coop has held up well under this cleaning regimen. It looks like the day I bought it.

I don't move it around the yard. It sits permanently under a Redwood tree in my yard with 12x12 inch pavers around the base to deter predators.

There has been no deterioration due to weather, but I do toss a waterproof tarp over it weighed down with bricks when rain is expected so the entire floor stays dry for the girls in inclement weather.

I am very happy with this purchase. I hope this helps with your decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Time and Building Challenged! October 6, 2009
First of all I can't even begin to tell you all the ways that I'm happy with my coop. No more chicken yards that look like a barren wasteland, no more worries over the smell of a 'ripe' coop, no more treks to the coop stooping over to collect eggs. My new coop is a conversation piece, fully functional, well constructed and was easy-to-put together. Could I have built this myself from scratch? Yes, if I had a free weekend to commit to the task, but I value my time and my weekends more than that. In an hour I had the hens in it - every two days I move them to a different location in the yard - just great!

3.0 out of 5 stars Smaller than expected
The coop is nice looking but much smaller than expected. There's only enough room for one hen to lay at a time. We're going to have to make some additions. It's a good start. Read more
