This lamp is made in Hong Kong by John Manufacturing and costs about $9.00 from the manufacturer when purchased directly. I reviewed its performance in 1998 and it is unchanged since then, except for the private labels. To sell it for this price is ridiculous. It should sell at retail for around $29.00. If you want a very good, made in the USA dual wavelength (365nm/254nm filtered) UV lamp for geology, look at the patented Spectroline (R) model UV-5NF, also available on Amazon. It operates on 4-AA alkaline (or better) batteries and also comes with an ac adapter for extended and bench use. It is sturdy and has far better UV intensity than this lamp. No comparison. TIP: to mount the UV-5NF so that it shines down on a surface, a bent wire coat hanger works very well. There are holes in the housing of the UV-5NF that are designed for this exact purpose....ingenious. JKS

Would like a discrimination switch for separating the sw from lw uv light, other than that you get what you pay for.

The unit is very handy; however, the light projection is not enough for large areas. The unit placed on a table the examine close specimens is great. The low-high feature works well. I like the portability.
