Hawthorne and the Human Dilemma,
By
This review is from: The Portable Hawthorne (Penguin Classics) (Mass Market Paperback)
Spengemann's selection of material from Hawthorne is outstanding in keeping with his deep knowledge of 19th Century American literature. Hawthorne used his stories and novels to explore the human condition, the complexities of our interactions with those around us and the inability to truly understand either ourselves or the other. We fall back on allegorical interpretations to rationalize the good and the evil in each of us.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Portable Hawthorne (Paperback)
