3.0 out of 5 stars Feel good motivation
If you are looking for an easy read that can provide some feel good motivation in your busy life, this book hits the mark. The author adds plenty of color and a bit of philosophy to his fitness advice. As you read it, you can't help but feel like you have the author right there by your side. However, I wouldn't recommend it to people looking for more scientific...

This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
This book contains 100 strategies about how to bring passion and delight to any personal training program and into one's life. Each "tip" is followed by an action item that provides specific recommendations about how to incorporate it into one's fitness program and life. My personal favorite strategy is # 89, "exercise with a dog". This tip talks about how dogs can lift our spirits and keep us living in the moment. The action item suggests you watch your dog closely during the excercise and notice how focused they are on the "thrill of movement"."Passion and performance"; what a wonderful connection! A motivational book that actually has great advice! I highly recommend this "trainer".

5.0 out of 5 stars The first fitness book that made a difference!!, June 23, 2001
By
Eric Harr (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
I've read countless fitness books trying to reach my goals. I had a baby last year and I could not, for the life of me, get back to a respectable weight. Time, motivation and lack of enjoyment for exercise were killing my efforts. I'd try the Adkins diet or aerobic tapes. They'd work for three weeks, then I'd go right back. Then my husband bought me Eric Harr's book. I am not kidding: I read it for about an hour and got more excited about my exercise than I have ever been. It motivated me and got me out the door every morning for the past three weeks. I have lost 8 pounds in three weeks and I've had fun the whole way. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Eric Harr for writing this book. It's a gem! I will tell all my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ranks as one of our top three books of all time!, July 21, 2001
This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
This is an absolutely lovely, lovely book. I exercise three times a week with a group of about nine women and have been doing so for six years. We have "book club" meetings every Sunday. We discuss books that have had the most impact on our lives -- an "Oprah's Book Club of Fitness" if you will. We've reviewed hundreds of books together and this ranks as one of our top three books of all time.

- Perhaps the most valuable part of this book was that it helped us clear up so much confusion surrounding exercise, nutrition and weight loss. So often these days, fitness, diet or health books are more confusing than they are helpful. The Portable Personal Trainer cuts right through the clutter with 300-500 word strategies that get right to the point and offer great instruction, humor, passion and inspiration.

- The insights are from an author who obviously spends every ounce of his being on fitness and shares it so eloquently with his readers. How many fitness authors are the "real deal?" This guy

- The strategies are fresh. Harr's book is so wonderfully fresh offering concepts I simply have not heard before.

- The 100 strategies contain a lovely mix of mental, physical and spiritual. They range from nutrition basics (he tells you everything you need to know about nutrition in 12 words!) to exercise tips to motivational secrets to empowering yourself through exercise.

This is a very special book and I believe it's destined for greatness, just as we imagine the author is. So, a heartfelt thanks, Eric Harr, from a group of women in Phoenix, Arizona who just think you and your book are about the best things to happen to the fitness world in the last five years.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is just a great book, July 6, 2001

This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
This book gets right to the heart of fitness in 100 very easy to understand strategies. It covers burning more fat during exercise, staying motivated to workout, eating smarter, even advanced workout tips, which I really like. I'm a fairly serious runner and the book hits the mark.

I actually saw the author present a fitness seminar at The Learning Annex a few years back in San Francisco. He was one of the best, if not THE best, speakers I've ever seen. He reminded me of Tony Robbins.

I'm glad to see Eric Harr's book is so well-liked on Amazon.com. I've only ever heard good things about this person and his book is a great stride forward for all of us trying to reach our own fitness goals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book - It's Another League!, August 14, 2001
By
Meg Whitman (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
I've read just about every fitness, nutrition, weight loss and sports performance book on the market. If you want to get your body into shape and to have fun doing it, this book is as good as you can get. It's in another league from every diet and fitness related book on the market.

1. It is really easy to follow. The book has 100 strategies of 300-600 words each. Just the format in which fitness books should be written -- but NONE ARE. Most are self-aggrandizing, convoluted 350-page manuals. The Portable Personal Trainer gets right to the point and the writing is just lovely and conversational.

2. It works. Almost everyone at my gym owns this book and they rave about it. People have made some serious transformations in their bodies based on this book. The advice is based on the author's real-world experience and from science and the other top athletes with whom he has trained.

3. It's fun. This book shows you how to achieve incredible fitness and weight loss results while having fun the entire way. No kidding. Serious FUN.

This is my favorite fitness book of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book - I Highly Recommend It!, July 23, 2001

This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
I absolutely adore this book. It's motivating, instructional, inspiring and to-the-point.

The author succeeds in getting me excited about workouts and shows me exactly how to achieve results. It offers new information I haven't heard before and it is written in easy-to-understand language (none of this fitness-babble so many authors seem keen to churn out).

I give this book an unequivocal "A" grade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignite your workouts, Reach new levels, Buy this book!, June 14, 2001

This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
Awesome, power packed advice. Instantly ignited my workouts and brought me painlessly to levels I could never achieve by myself. Why pay $50/hr for an amatuer when you can buy a $1000/hr (yes, one thousand) expert's advice for under $10. This book was fast easy advice that spoke to the laymen and cut to the chase. Why can't everything in this world be like Eric Harr's book. By the way, there's great resource on his web site also. http://www.ericharr.com or http://www.bodyfire.com

This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
A friend referred this book to me who loved it. I was skeptical, as I'm skeptical of all fitness-related books these days. But "The Portable Personal Trainer" was really fresh, compelling and valuable. There are 100 simple strategies to follow. The book covers every conceivable fitness topic from staying motivated to exercise to eating smarter to getting more benefit from exercise all in 300-500 word tips. I love the format, the personable writing and the "real-deal" author. I heartily recommend this book to anyone interested in increasing their fitness or getting more enjoyment and inspiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could Not Put This Book Down, July 27, 2001
By
Christine Welch (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
This book is so incredibly good that I couldn't put it down for two hours while lounging in the bookstore.

I saw the author on television and was so impressed I went to Borders that night to check out his book. They were sold out. But, get this: the employees had their own copies! (That must be a good sign). So I leafed through his book and on EVERY SINGLE PAGE there is something of genuine value. In fact, I asked for a pad of paper and a pen and began taking notes furiously. Two hours later, I felt like I had absorbed years of exercise wisdom and inspiration. I was ready to launch a whole new fitness program -- and I had the know-how to do it!!

I bought eight copies on Amazon, one for each of my best friends and my mom and dad. The book is so infectous and so uplifting, everyone is nuts about it.

The Portable Personal Trainer is one of the best fitness books you'll ever read. You won't be able to put it down. Guaranteed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Guide to Elevate Your Game, September 16, 2001

This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
I've been a professional golfer for nine years. A while back, I began to closely study how professional triathletes trained their bodies so that I could achieve a higher level of fitness and resiliency out on the course. I purchased this book for a friend and ended up reading it myself. It is a top-notch guide to fitness, nutrition, motivation and what it means to be a champion, whatever your game or goals. (I kept the book and bought another for my friend!)

Easy to follow, to the point and filled with sound advice, I recommend it to all.
