It seems the one thing this device will not charge is an iPhone 4s unfortunately.
I don't know if the initial charging problem was with the included cable or with the 3rd party adapter, but there is definitely a problem.
I immediately bought better rechargeable batteries, because the ones that came with it were not worth it.
