Book Description

Swiss private banking in either form is not for everyone: on average a Swiss private bank will require a minimum asset value of between 500,000 and 1 million Swiss Francs (although in some cases certain private banks will also accept affluent clients with a ‘mere’ 100,000 Swiss Francs to start with). Yet despite this restriction, it is not necessary to have any particular sum of money at your disposal to apply some of the good Swiss private-banking principles on your own. The Portable Private Banker has been written to help you do this, and that does not mean firing your advisors and using your money to buy and sell through daily trades on the stock exchange. In fact, quite the opposite. As the majority of private banks will today manage your assets through an investment in so-called Best in Class funds and ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds), this book adopts the same private-banking approach in managing your wealth: with funds and ETFs. The Portable Private Banker is used as a textbook for the Money Management class within the University of Cumbria MBA at Robert Kennedy College, Zurich, Switzerland.

Few months ago I was pretty sure that investments are for anybody but me - today I have totally changed my mind thanks to the valuable content and advises I received reading "The Portable Private Banker". Definitely the best guide towards investments and private banking! I would highly recommend it to anyone willing to get familiar with the investment world and planning to go further.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great guide for those new to investing November 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This text is written from the viewpoint that you are new to investing. It clearly describes what investment choices you have, how they work and the strengths & weaknesses of the various investment vehicles. If you want a plain English approach to the investment world full of acronyms then this is a good choice. It centers mainly on the European market and US, but I look forward to the Asian, Oceanic and Latin American edition that is sure to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Passion and Hope for the Future November 28, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The Portable Private Banker (PPB) by Dr. David Costa was shipped to me in Kazakhstan where I live and work. I was initially reluctant reading it but once I made up my mind to spend some time to go through the book, it became very difficult to stop.

I was not previously exposed to actively managed funds and exchange traded funds, but Dr. Costa made it so easy and simple to comprehend. He has included practical examples and several references to follow-up on personal asset allocation and portfolio management.

I appreciate the passion and hope for the future presented by Dr. Costa. It is evident that Dr. Costa wants to see people make the best financial decisions and be financially free.

This book is a must-read and I strongly recommend it both to those who already have good knowledge of investments and those who are struggling with managing their money.

Dr. Costa through the PPB has put in my hands the key to unlocking great financial treasures. I can only wish that this book would soon be marketed in Nigeria to help several people who have their monies under 'mattresses and pillows' for fear of losing their hard-earned funds.

Very well done Dr. Costa.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ganesh's Feedback on Portable Private Banker Book November 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Dear Co Customers:

Several years of Dr. David Costa's hard work, research and his practical experience was expressed in this book "Portable Private Banker" in a commendable way that any lay man in "investment / money management" subject can understand those practical examples.

This book consists of lot of information on (1) Actively Managed Funds, (2) ETFs, (3) Commodities and (4) Asset Allocation through various instruments like Funds and ETFs, recommended by Dr. David with his practical experience.

I had zero knowledge in Money Management initially but after reading this book (ofcourse I had to read multiple times) and started analyzing that information, I've gained sufficient confindence in investments.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn "investment / money management" subject either for academic purposes or for personal learnings.

Please feel free to contact me at "ganesh_botcha@yahoo.com" for any additional information you need in this regard.

Regards,
Ganesh

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute book for MBA students July 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This book has a wealth of information to impart its readers with. I would recommend it to all, especially the MBA students as their repertoire of skills and investment knowledge would never be the same again after a good read of this book. Though I'm yet to complete the reading, what I've gained so far has really pumped and placed me in a comfortable seat to invest wisely and make tough decisions when it comes to my investments and financial matters.

On the other hand, there are few things I would like to see change about this book for it to be a complete package. The Fonts are not the best and also, it's a bit boring to read. Other than those, it's a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A convenient portable private banker July 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Wow this book make a beginner easy! How? First it explains in plain language for reader to understand basic investment, then it deals with investor's emotions and losses, this is where a lot of investors, be it beginners or season investors must face.

Then it flows through the investment in funds and Exchange Traded Funds. It educates investors on asset allocation through funds and ETFs and in addition it even giving investors reliable sources of funds. It is something like giving choices of good funds to select, it is entirely up to an individual's risk appetite. After reading the whole book, the "Portable Private Banker" really means business and real portable, I can carry my private banker anywhere I go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and comprehensive book !!!! July 21, 2011
Format:Paperback
The "Portable Private Banker" is highly up to date and provides a great and comprehensive overview about "private banking" in the area of mutual funds and ETFs as well as including a lot of background information.
Besides that, the book is very well written, easy to understand also for "non-bankers" and illustrated by practical examples and sample portfolios.

So why trust bankers or insurance agents trying to sell you funds without cross-checking their advice in a very critical way? Or on the other hand why keeping your money at actually low interest rates on a bankbook? Although it's always about risk and reward, this book can help you to find the right balance and be as successful as possible with your future investments.
