Format: Paperback
Useless pocket book with a huge size font (which defies a purpose of such guide). I doubt the reviewer above actually read it or used it for surgical internship. Information is very general and irrelevant. Not recommended!

1 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Saleem Seyal on January 11, 2006
Format: Paperback
This 150 page booklet written by an experienced plastic surgeon offers a remarkably succint how-to recipe for " interns and residents" in surgery during their early formative years. The book, however, has a lot to offer for medical trainees of any specialty at every level of their training. DR.Larry Florman is a 30 year veteran of private practice in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Louisville, KY who , in his semi-retirement years, has assumed a mentoring job at the local University as Director of the Residency Trainig Program. This little book complements the obligatory specialty manuals stuffed in the bulging pockets of white lab coats of the interns, residents and fellows. Various topics are dealt with extremely effectively including good communication with patients and their families, compassion, humility, legible writing, presentation skills, collegiality and above all, professionalism.Keeping abreast of the latest advances in one's own specialty is a life- long pursuit of a physician but the aspects of day-to-day practice are not widely taught except through the time-honored apprentice-mentor relationship. This little booklet is a distillation of a well-respected surgeon's own perspective about the noble profession of Medicine and its myriad demands on the trainees and offers practical and true-and-tried solutions. The book is highly recommended and should be a required reading for the senior medical students as well as postgraduate trainees.
