As durable as a plastic gas can., November 16, 2011
This review is from: 5 GAL Portable Camp Toilet Camping Flush Potty (Misc.)
This unit is well made.It has been in use daily since last July.Forget the rinsing valve. When people say "it doesn't work",they don't mean the bellows is cracked or leaking. They mean the water stream is inadequate for the task of washing the plastic bowl surface. It's plastic, not vitreous china so don't expect miracles.
I leave the water tank emplty therefor and use a plastic dish soap dispenser filled with water and left beside the toilet for the next person. That provides a powerful concentrated stream for bowl cleaning. You can lift the seat, drape paper on the back of the bowl surface and lower the seat to hold it in place prior to use. This makes it easier to keep the surface clean as a whistle...or maybe just cleaner than it could be... :)
This also makes it easier to go longer between dumping.
Cleanup is trouble free as far as I can see.
Now,to make things easier,do this.Occasionally grease or soap the steel shaft for the trap door mechanism so it slides freely.Don't open the trap door with the lid up.Sometimes, not always, the lower chamber is slightly pressurized and you'll windup washing your glasses.Best bet is to pull the handle just a little before pulling completely open.
How you are shaped may be worth considering. This unit has a seat not much smaller than most toilets and any other differences between it and a regular toilet can probably be lived with.
As far as odor goes, there is none. This is a well made ,tough, little unit and I bought another right after test driving the first. What more can I say.I tried to buy American but I couldn't get answers to my questions in a timely fashion and I did try.
