Advances in our knowledge of the pathogenesis and management of portal hypertension and its complications over the last 2 decades have been astronomical. However, most of the management strategies remain palliative and serves as a bridge to liver transplantation. This book includes dedicated chapters on gastric varices management, ectopic varices management, sinusoidal obstruction syndrome, portal hypertensive bilopathy, portal hypertension as a risk factor in nonhepatic abdominal surgery, idiopathic portal hypertension, and portal hypertension in pregnancy. As all other chapters, they represent updates on the recent advances and were written by well-known experts in such areas. It also includes a self-assessment section for evaluation of the level benefit obtained from reading this book.
