This review is from: A Portal Into Fire (Audio CD)
Obscene Eulogy have made quite a name for themselfs in the metal world, and understandably so, their latest album, 'A Portal Into Fire', is one of the most aggressive titles I have heard all year. With their blistering mix of Behemoth style black/death metal and a furious splash of thrash style musical compsition, they have truly released an album that is definitely worth buying. Unlike most bands in this genre, Obscene Eulogy have mastered it by fusing both black and death metal incredebly elequintly and eficiently, while still keeping an utterly brutal edge. With the obcious exception of the keyboard driven intro, "Rivers of Blood in the Wind of Horror", and outro, "The Portal", the music throughout the album is unrelentingly heavy, even with the keyboards (that give this album a beautifully textured feel) they still hold nothing back. Vocally it can be construed in two ways; 1. Mika Luttinen's vocals are just as strong as they are on the Impaled Nazarene records, or 2. because the vocals sound exactly the same, they Obscene Eulogy might seem like a watered down Impaled Nazarene. I, personally, am sticking with number one. If you are in the mood for a refreshing blast of sonic hatred then you should do yourself the favor of picking up this album. A solid record and a definite recomendation.
