Book Description

March 1, 2006
A suspenseful psychological thriller, Portals of the Night profiles the ominous battle between good and evil as a small-town attorney confronts the Biblical myths predicting the end of the world and his personal apocalypse.

Robert Ashton Farwell becomes involved in an experimental project that propels him into the subconscious. Farwell ventures into the confusing, unfamiliar realm of inner-space, only to discover his life is in grave danger. Religious fanatics intent on killing Mormon defectors for violating secret temple ordinances force Farwell to become immersed again in the mysteries of the Mormon Church from which he had tried to escape. Former members are being executed. Farwell is next. He has thirty days to identify the assassins and prevent his own murder.

Through these dark portals the shocking truth about Mormonism is revealed.

Portals is an epic battle in the eternal struggle between the righteous and the wicked. It is a story of redemption and hope in a place where time has no meaning. The bridge spanning the gap between believers and nonbelievers is about to fall. The time to choose has arrived.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read, October 25, 2006
This review is from: Portals of the Night (Paperback)
I just finished Portals of the Night, by Dennis Farley. It is a mixture of the conscious and subconscious mind, mixed in with the secret temple oaths and rituals of the Mormon church.

The story moves along at a good pace, and the reader is drawn ever further into the events as they are unfolding for the main character, Robert Farwell.

A thoroughly enjoyable read. Well worth the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book a reflective reader can appreciate., June 13, 2006
This review is from: Portals of the Night (Paperback)
Robert Farwell is not your average main character. He is about to delve into the timeless mysteries of world mythology. He is a former Mormon who finds he has unfinished issues. He is involved in a revolutionary science experiment entering the subconscious world. There is someone who wants him dead.

A murder mystery and a science fiction psychological adventure make this book a great story. The surprise is that the book offers so much more. We find deep and enduring insight about how myths of the past are with us today. We discover some Socratic-like dialogue between mentor and student questioning what we have been taught from birth. We are taken on a journey through the culture of Mormonism and subconscious thoughts.

Farley's writing provides flashes of wisdom through his phantasmagorical wanderings. He illuminates with his poetry and symbolism dispersed in the book. He creates a charged sensuality in the subconscious realm with bold and intriguing ideas. He provocatively challenges us to consider what we believe and why. This intelligently written book is entertaining and artistic. It was a delight to read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Portals of the Night, August 1, 2010
This review is from: Portals of the Night (Paperback)
If I could only name one book in the world that is filled to the brim with absolute, 100% deceit, this would be it. It's obvious that Farley has been smoking or mainlining something, because there is nothing in this book that even remotely resembles the truth. I tried hard to find even one redeeming quality, but failed miserably. What a nightmare!
