I am always on the look-out for children's books that make ME laugh - if by some chance THIS is the book that my child will want me to read 5 million times a day, then I won't have the urge to throw it out of the window at an opportune moment!
It is a loving, sweet and subtle funny book, which I would definitely recommend.

The amazing thing about this book is that it manages to capture the essence of true friendship very quickly and with so few words. With a child's sensibilities in mind, Seeger creates an instant classic. Buy this book along with Frog and Toad and George and Martha.

The quality and style of the artist's work in this book was amazingly awesome. I think that the characters in Dog and Bear are really great and I wish that there were more Dog and Bear books. They remind me of feelings that I have sometimes and I've also got a best friend like dog so I understand how bear feels. I really like this book a lot.

A very cute book,

Dog and Bear are a pair of unlikely friends. Dog is a Dachshund who loves to play, and Bear is a teddy bear who likes to sit and read. But, there is one thing that ties the two together...their friendship.
This is a very cute book. The illustration work is kind of primitive, but goes along quite nicely with the dream-like story. My little one really likes this book, and I am quite sure that your will as well!

Themes: friendship, cooperation
Excellent read aloud for preschool to 2nd grade elementary school students. Using humor, bright colorful illustrations, and simple childlike prose, the stories of Dog and Bear come to life. Great for young children who will love to hear repeated readings; and excellent for teaching beginning writers how to visualize and execute short stories with a simple beginning-middle-end sequence. The illustrations truly draw you in and bring the stories to life. Using different visual perspectives, thought bubbles, and facial expression the author creates a safe playful world between two friends, that children will want to keep coming back to.

This book is very simple but has really cute illustrations. I really like how the book captures true friendship and that can be a great lesson for children. Dog and Bear is a great book for parents and teachers of young children. There are lots of places throughout the book to make funny sounds and even make different voices for the characters and the children will enjoy that. I know i will be adding this book to my classroom collection for the future.

Gentle Friendship,
By Kemie Nix "Founder, Children's Literature for... (Peachtree City, GA USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Dog and Bear (Neal Porter Books) (Boston Globe-Horn Book Award Winner-Best Picture Book) (Awards)) (Hardcover)
A dachshund and a multi-colored stuffed bear play out the gentlest of misadventures, all revolving around the meaning of friendship. For example, Dog wants Bear to play with him. Bear is busy reading a book about a dog and a bear that are friends. Bear doesn't want to be disturbed while Dog brings an array of toys to entice Bear away from his book. A sentence in Bear's book finally makes him realize that he should play with Dog - with a nice twist at the end.
Loose, broad black lines depict these two characters as they play out their stories against white backgrounds. The drawings seem deceptively simple but they capture emotions with economy. These two friends are just too charming for words.

An instant classic,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dog and Bear (Neal Porter Books) (Boston Globe-Horn Book Award Winner-Best Picture Book) (Awards)) (Hardcover)
I am a first grade teacher and my class was so enamored with this book that I promised them that I would leave a review on behalf of all the children. Dog and Bear are two characters who will, without a doubt be instant classics, right along with Frog and Toad and George and Martha. They are endearing and adorable and were instantly loved by all from the first reading on. Seeger does a superb job of creating characters to whom children can relate and love. To Ms. Seeger: Félicitations! Travail bien fait!

My 3 year old and I both love reading this book. The stories are funny situations that most kids get into at one time or another. Great for the 2-4 age range. Dog and Bear: Two's Company is wonderful too. I also recommend Mo Willems books which similarly portray humorous situations with lovable animal characters. Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!, The
