Great quality tool, good price,

This was my very first Porter Cable (PC) product, which I bought at Home Depot back when they used to carry all the cordless PC products. I was completely impressed with the quality and performance from day one.In fact, I went back to HD to get some other PC 19.2V cordless equipment, figuring I would standardize on them and be able to use the batteries for everything. Imagine my shock when I could not find them at HD anymore, nor at any of the other big box stores! Concerned, I contacted PC and was relieved to find that they were alive and well but had opted out of the "big box" price wars as part of their strategy based around consolidation with Delta after both were acquired by Pentair. In other words, they opted for quality over cutthroat pricing required by the big boxes. So I started buying my PC equipment from Amazon. Then came the battery problems. I emailed PC about the short battery lifetimes when two of my batteries quit charging after less than a year. PC promptly sent me two brand new chargers that had been redesigned with better diagnostics, and four brand new batteries, all at no cost. I have never had a battery problem or a charger problem since, and I was impressed with the responsiveness of the PC team. So impressed, that I currently own just about every cordless PC tool in the 19.2v class. I just ordered the hammer drill off Amazon last week. Don't let anyone tell you this stuff is junk, those that do either have not even tried to let PC correct their problems or have a blind loyalty to one of the other brands. Not that there are not other good brands, just that PC is one of the good ones!

Best value/performance,

This drill has excellent power. The battery life is outstanding. The weight is managable (only slightly heavier than my older 12v bosch). The clutch and electric brake have good feel. The drill is balanced well. Unlike my older drill the bit holders (2ea) work. The price on this unit is incredible (...). 19.2v is kind of unusual. However, Porter-Cable has a complete line of tools at this power, so I expect they should be around for a long time. My drill is still fairly new so the only unknown I have is how well the batteries will last. This is one of the most important considerations in buying cordless. This is the reason I chose not to buy the 18v Dewalt, or the 15.6v NiMH Panasonic. My old 12v Bosch Batteries lasted 6yrs, which given the amount of use I think that is pretty good. I went with the Porter-Cable for the price.

I ordered this kit primarly for the two 19.2 volt batteries it came with as I already had a combo/kit with two bad batteries. This item (9826) came with two batteries allright, but they are much smaller in size than the orgianal ones. The websight isn't clear that these are comsummer batteries and not commercial grade.

This product does not last,
This review is from: Porter-Cable 9826 19.2-Volt Ni-Cad 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this drill just under 2 years ago to supplement my much older, very reliable 12V Ryobi for when I need more UMPH.I never did like this PC drill that much because it is very heavy and the batteries they supply have very low storage capacity. The charge would barely last 45 minutes of regular use. This comes with a fancy computerized battery charger that can detect and charge several differnt voltage batteries. Well mine died a few months ago. I probably did not charge the batteries more than 25 to 30 times on that charger. I called PC and the best they would do is sell me a charger at a discounted price of $65 including shipping. That works out to about $2 per charge. I also have a friend who is an electrition and he tells me the PC cordless drills are the ones that are tossed after pretty short lives. I recommned stongly against it - my only other experience with cordless drills is with my Ryobi. That is still going strong after nearly 10 years (with two new generic batteries that were actually better quality than the originals). I would recommend one of their higher end drills.

King of the 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill/Drivers,

I have been working and playing with power tools almost all my life, I just turned 65. This Porter-Cable Cordless Drill/Driver has got to be the best one I've ever used. The weight and the way it fits in your hand is perfect. It's great the way Porter-Cable made a tool to respond to your commands so quickly and smoothly. The only drawback I could find is they didn't make a 15 minute charger like the guys who make that YELLOW drill.

I had worn out a fabulous Porter-Cable 14.4v cordless drill. I had used and abused it, great batteries, great power. My family got me this 19.2v model as a replacement. It works well, lots of power, etc... but the battery life is very poor, a fraction of my previous tool. I wouldn't buy it again.

I owned the drill for about a week when one of the batteries smoked and sizzled while in the case. I have yet to find out if the liquid that sprayed from the battery is toxic and what I do with it now, since Amazon, TrueValue and Porter Cable want to pass the buck and tell me to contact someone else. I will never buy Porter Cable again.

The drill is ok. Not as tough as I had hoped since a drop to the floor from waist level broke a piece of plastic on it. Good buy for the money but wish it was built like a hitachi.

Porter Cable disappointment,

I bought this drill/driver because I already have a Porter Cable 19.2 Volt hammer drill. Getting two more matching batteries and a needed tool seemed like a good idea. But when I received the new drill, I discovered that it has smaller batteries with a shorter life. Both tools are 19.2 volt, but the drill/driver batteries have 1/4 to 1/3 less life. Very disappointed, and feel their should have been some disclosure.
