4.0 out of 5 stars the 19.2 from a Professional point of view
I have owned the drill for about 2 months now. I find it to be more than adequate for the type of work I do. I install Hollow Metal door frames, doors, and remodeling and maintenance as well. It has plenty of power, torque and the frame is small enough to access relatively tight areas. I used the Makita 9 volt for years. The Porter Cable 19.2 surpasses that one as well...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Tool -- Bad Battery
This is a great tool; smooth, not heavy, rugged case, good power. This does have plastic drive gears which eventually wear out but is fine the casual worker or light work. I spent 3 weekends driving 3/8 lags screws and stripped the gears. No problem getting a new drill. I have 2 other similair models but the batteries last about 2 hours with medium work load and...

This review is from: Porter-Cable 9884 19.2 Volt 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
The Porter Cable 19.2 surpasses that one as well as the others I have owned or used in my work. If there is one detractor to the drill, it has to be the drill motor housing/case. The other day as I was working from a 4' ladder and the drill fell to the floor (carpeted} and the housing cracked near the battery reveiver area. Needless to say I was a bit upset. I have had other drills sustain such falls before with a minimal of damage and keep on working. In this type of work, I need a tool that will perform under very harsh field conditions and keep on going. Down time is money to me and every other tradesman in the industry. Perhaps a case of polycarbonate could be introduced to take the daily rigors of the job site. A satisfied customer is, after all, a repeat customer. Respectfully submitted, Skip Dascomb SDASCOMB@aol.com

I like mine, you should get you one. I consider a couple hundred bucks to be a fairly substantial investment, so I did lots of research before I bought mine.I considered buying DeWalt, but after talking to several owners, I found that DeWalt had a histoy of problems, besides, it appeared that Porter Cable had more bang for the buck. I was right, the drill I have goes a long, long time before I have to charge it. Just the other day I was driving screws intermittently all day long, and at the end of the day I had to drive 12- 6" by 1/4" lag bolts into douglas, fir, I decided not to predrill them, just to see if my drill would do it.(I still had a fresh battery if it wouldn't.)So anyway the drill did it, it even twisted the head right off one of the lag bolts, when I ran into a knot, and had power left over! The only 2 things I would change about the package would be, to design a more useful carrying case with more storage space, and to make the drill a little lighter, but I feel pleased with my selection, and I use my drill almost 5 days a week at work, I work for a general contractor. I have owned my drill for about 6 months.

I use a Dewalt 18 volt and the PC 19.2 volt. The Porter-Cable is my cordless drill of choice everytime. The fit and finish are excellent. It fits my hand and while not a light weight it is comfortable to hold for long periods of time. It as if this drill was made form me, my 20 year old daughter says the samething. The PC 19.2 volt is the most used drill in the shop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best, November 21, 2000
This review is from: Porter-Cable 9884 19.2 Volt 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've got 168 Field Engineers working in the southeast US, all carrying a variety of cordless power drills. I've been through Makita, DeWalt, and Milwaukee before coming over to Porter Cable. Before this, we used only their band saws. Now, as the old one's wear out, we're moving over to all 19.2 volt Porter Cable cordless power drills. I had a new one in my garage building suspended shelving, using it next to my Makita, and except for being slightly heavier it blew away the competition. I'm forever a Porter Cable buyer from now on!!!

I was looking for a 1/2 hammer drill to supplement my 3/8 corded model to improve versatility around he house. After purchasing a cordless drill, I've been wondering what I've been doing dragging around extension cords all these years. I've used the 19.2 v PC for about a year and have not been let down yet. The larger chuck, adjustable torque, and hammer ability are definite advantages. There seems to be plenty of power for household uses as well as light framing and home projects. Its the most used product in the shop. The batteries recharge quickly and the carrying case keeps everything together nicely. The shape fits my hand well and can be used for long periods of time with little fatigue. It's large size can make it difficulty to place in a tool belt while perched atop a ladder. Batteries change quickly and smoothly. No problems with the recharger. I'm very happy with the product and own several other PC hand tools.

I have three cordless drills and this is the one I always reach for first. It fits my hands very well, right or left. It has good power and I can use it for extended periods. My other two drills are a Dewalt 18 and a Milwaukee 14.4, both are good but I still go for the PC 19.2.

I was using the Dewalt 12V drill for my projects until it met its match when I needed it to drive home 2" screws in white oak. It failed me big time!! I was at the Rockler store the next day buying odds and ends for my project and noticed the 19.2 volt on sale.... I took it home and I am telling you it made mince meat of those 2" screws. Perfect for pocket hole screwing with the multiple setting clutch. Personally I don't really find all that heavy either.

Bought this to build a deck, and I was blown away. It had more than enough power -- in fact, I had to be careful not to drive the 3 1/2" screws through the wood. I drilled quarter-inch holes through six inches of wood, and it never slowed down. It recharged quickly (usually around an hour and a half), so I was never waiting for a battery. It is heavy, largely due to the battery weight, so if you have wrist problems, go for something lighter. But if you want unfailing power with the convenience of cordless, this bad boy is for you.

I put in some storage shelves for my wife using an old 14.4 cordless screwdriver/drill. It died halfway through the project and so I purchased the 19.2V Porter-Cable. What a difference the new drill made. The screws, which before I had to force in by hand with my screwdriver, now zipped right in. I had to be very careful with the clutch settings to keep from driving them through the drywall and studs! Do yourself a favor if you buy this drill --consider purchasing the 19.2V flashlight. What? you already own a flashlight? I thought I did too, until I used the Porter-Cable flashlight.

The good things about this drill: Power, the best clutch I have used, a quick recharging system (under 1 hour to charge!), one charge lasts a very long time.

The bad things: too heavy for some, just right for me. High cost, but you do get what you pay for with this drill.

last year i got a Dewalt 3/8 chuck 18v drill from some friends. it started out great then finally broke. so i browsed around and found the porter cable. ive only had it for about a month now but so far it works perfectly. i am a carpenter so i use it almost everyday. the weight is not too much and the battery life is simply amazing. i went a week on the first battery while drilling 1' spade holes through 3/4 ply for countertops. the grip on the handle is comfortable as is changing bits in the chuck. another nice plus is the bit storage has a lid to hold everything in. unfortunately a few gripes i have with it are the case is HUGE for what it holds. although there is a recess for a 3rd battery and a flashlight. also the battery slides on and off and is slightly weird to get used to when someone is used to a click in gun style battery such as Dewalt. when its on "low" or the "1" setting the motor is a littly whiny sounding, but when switched to "high" or "2" it isnt quite as high pitched. over all it works wonderfully and it seems like it will hold up better than the Dewalt did.

lates.
