Porter-Cable 9987 19.2 - Volt Hammer Drill / Driver,
By Dennis Tubbs (Greensburg, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Porter-Cable 9987 19.2-Volt Ni-Cad 1/2-Inch Cordless Hammer Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
The hammer/drill is on the heavy side, but is an excellent hammer drill. I have been drilling very hard concrete with a very good non-hammer, corded, drill and it would take several minutes to complete each hole. The Porter-Cable cordless hammer drill complete a hole in seconds. Love the drill, just a little on the heavy side.

A bad purchase,
This review is from: Porter-Cable 9987 19.2-Volt Ni-Cad 1/2-Inch Cordless Hammer Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
My husband had a porter cable 14.4 drill and had been drooling over this one. Well I bought it as a gift for him. First use he noticed that the chuck had a wobble in it. He has only had it for a couple of months and the wobble has gotten increasingly worse. Now it's getting to the point that the chuck won't even hold onto a drill bit. Maybe I just got a bad one but I wouldn't buy this one again.

Good Tool, Bad Battery,

This is a great tool; smooth, not heavy, rugged case, good power. This does have plastic drive gears which eventually wear out but is fine the casual worker or light work. I spent 3 weekends driving 3/8 lags screws and stripped the gears. No problem getting a new drill. I have 2 other similair models but the batteries last about 2 hours with medium work load and may take 4 or more hours to cool off and take 2 hours to charge. My old model PC drill last 4 hours and charges in about 1 1/2 hours.
