New from Porter-Cable! This back-up power generator has a 14 hp Briggs & Stratton OHV Vanguard engine. Built for durability, the engine has cast iron cylinder sleeves and low oil protection. The overhead valve design is also smoother running and quieter. Starts easily using the pull cord or push button electric start (battery not included). Rated for 8,000 continuous watts, the advanced brushless alternator provides less current distortion and longer life without the need for brush replacement. The 7-gallon tank provides 5.5 hours of run time at full load and 8.4 hours at half load. The included portability kit allows easy transport without having to carry the generator. Includes generator, portability kit, and engine oil.

I really like the performance of the BSV800 but the one thing I
don't like is the noise. It's got the 14hp B&S Vanguard engine
(very good engine) but it sounds like a Mac truck. I've been looking to get a motorcycle muffler for the thing... Performance
wise it's great - I've got a 3200 sf house and it easily runs the
well pump, furnace blower, fridge, furnace exhaust blower and
some room circuits.

For the wattage, this is one dependable stout system. I live in So. Maryland where the power goes out 2-3 times a year. I rewired a sub panel with a generator switchover (for safety) and an external all weather plug. I brazed on an generic automotic muffler so it's VERY quiet. My 12 year old can safely setup the generator and switch the essential house circuits over in 5 mins. I regret not getting a larger wattage output, but for this size it definately does the job! Highly recommend.
