3.0 out of 5 stars The jury is still out
I recently bought this kit and added the 15ga. angle nailer to the set. Right now, the set is seeing heavy use. To keep it short... It looked like a great value, and so far I'm happy. The brad nailer's fit and finish are impressive for an inexpensive tool. It doesn't look or feel cheep. However, the safey is a pain. You have to press it down just right and lift it...

I bought this unit about a month ago, and I thought it was a bargain...!The main reason I bought it was to install wainscot (1/4" pine, tongue-in-groove boards) in a room which was 9'x25'. This tool really made the work go pretty fast. To put up the wainscot, it's preferable to nail it through the tongue; what can happen is that the nail (or your hammer!) splits the tongue and therefore makes the installation go slow. To avoid splitting, the wainscot mfgr. recommends predrilling the nail holes! Talk about slow installation! The porter cable nailer allowed me to put the nails in without much splitting of tongues, and it also put the nail in without requiring a nail set to get the nail even or below the surface of the wood.

The compressor plugs into a regular 110v AC outlet, and only runs when it needs to refill its air tank. I found that I could shoot 20-25 1" brads before the compressor would kick on and run for about 1 minute. The compressor is not quiet, but it isn't that loud either. The unit is easily carried from place to place (approx. 40 lbs) and doesn't take much space at the job site.

I've always wanted one of these, and I can see using it for a variety of around the home build-it jobs. One more thing, I bought nails for the nailer at Loew's, and they were <$10 for a box of 5,000.

It took about 1 week from the time I ordered it, til I received the box. Everything arrived in great condition; I've had good service from this and other items I have ordered from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Product for Home Projects, May 15, 2000

This is my first compressor and first nail gun, thus I was a bit apprehensive about assembly and first use. However, I found Porter-Cable's written instructions remarkably clear and the lightweight pancake-style compressor easy to handle. I did quite a bit of comparison shopping, deciding on the Porter-Cable brad nailer after reading recent magazine reviews. As a woman, I found the compressor's weight a particularly desirable feature. The nailer has good heft and balance. I've now completed several jobs around the house, including base molding and light furniture construction. This machinery has performed beyond my expectations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great package deal from a great company!, July 31, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Porter-Cable CFBN125A 18-Gauge Brad Nailer Compressor Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Being a novice fixer-upper/wood worker, I wanted to move into a little more advanced stuff. After watching The New Yankee Workshop, over and over again, I knew I wanted, at least, a air powered brad nailer. After getting this one, it has turned out to be an indispensable tool! No more waiting for glue to dry, just brad nail it together! With so may other options and attachments, everyone could use an air compressor at the home. Air tool options... painting, driving nails, driving staples, powered drills, powered chisels, filling up car tires, blowing up air toys, the list goes on...

This little guy is a great introduction of what air tools can provide! It's small and weighs very little. Very easy to understand instructions with little to read (good and to the point). Almost no prepwork. You only need to let it run for 15 minutes before use. The included brad nailer is also well constructed. Smooth operation with no kickback. So far I've used the brad nailer to build some small furniture, attach molding, to blow off saw dust (with optional attachments), and to fill up the tires on my car (no more driving to the gas station!)

I highly recommend this product to be a top choice in your workshop (get a good table saw first!). It's dependable and so is Porter Cable! The only thing I don't like is the noise level. It's a little noisy, but I'll live with that!

5.0 out of 5 stars You can not Beat this Deal!, August 17, 2000
This review is from: Porter-Cable CFBN125A 18-Gauge Brad Nailer Compressor Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This all in one Brad Nailing Package from Porter Cable makes life easy. Everything you need to get started, from the 6 gal. 2 HP Compressor to a nice little 18 Gauge nailer, all the way down the the hose and couple this set is fantastic. I have been selling tools for over eight years and I have never seen anyone offer a package like this for this low price anywhere. Heck I could not put one together for this deal if I sold it at my cost! ... Let me also say my customers have never been let down by this package. Porter Cable makes a fantastic Air Brad Nail Gun. This 18 Guage model is a mid size gun that is light and easy to use for both vertical and horizontal aplications. Its the type of gun you can easily use even if your a beginer. It nail magazine is easy to load, and the safty on the front end to keep you from fireing before your flush to the work is fantastic. If you are in the market for a nice mid sized air nailer and do not have a small portable compresor you need to check this kit out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Value and Quality, April 26, 2001
This review is from: Porter-Cable CFBN125A 18-Gauge Brad Nailer Compressor Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Just received my combo pack two days ago and am very impressed so far with everything in this set. The brad gun is of high quality and is not cumbersome like some others. It is very easy to hold and comfortable too. I was a little concerned when I read some of the other reviews that the compressor was very loud but after hearing it myself that concern is gone. It is not all that loud and if it does bother you, then just buy an extension to your hose and you can set the compressor in another room. A twenty-five foot hose comes with it but I'll probably buy another section of hose so I don't have to carry the compressor with me. I'm currently building Norm's router table and so far I am very impressed with the amount of brads that can be shot before the compressor has to refill the tank. Even when it was refilling I could still continue to shoot without any change in the depth that the brads were being shot. I also bought with my combo the 5000 count B&C Eagle brads and then read one of the reviews later about someone else who had bought them for his Porter Cable brad gun and how they jammed up his gun and he had to go out and buy Porter Cable brads to solve this problem. I used them in my gun when it arrived and encountered none of these problems. The brads worked flawlessly and I have no complaints. The instruction manual for this brad gun states that the gun comes with safety glasses and there is a space in the brad case for them but there were no safety glasses with my gun. That is not a big concern of mine as I have plenty of safety glasses from my previous job. Anyone who is interested in having their own air compressor for filling up tires, blowing the grass off their lawn mower, pumping air into a water logged pressure tank, home repair and remodeling and furniture building will love this compact but powerful air compressor combo!

Needed to rationalize buying this luxury for my shop, so held off until it came time to finish the basement. I rented a framing nailer and the compressor was more than adequate to power over 1,000 10D nails in a weekend. I have another weekend of work and know that it'll work great. The brad nailer works great too and instructions for both are clear and easy to follow.

I plan on using it to apply paint, varnish and other finishes.

This is a great combo.

The brad nailer's fit and finish are impressive for an inexpensive tool. It doesn't look or feel cheep. However, the safey is a pain. You have to press it down just right and lift it up far enough between shots or it doesn't shoot. I am a trim carpenter, and I use it a lot to pin my miters. This is an awkward problem. But so far it has worked well otherwise. The compressor is light and easy to carry which is great. It also seems to have plenty of power for the guns that I use, but it is awfully noisy and the recovery time is a bit slow. I haven't had it long, so I can't speak of it's durability. So far, I 'm glad that I bought it.

I have done all sorts of carpentry jobs so I opted to go with a compressor/nailer combo in hopes of making my life easier. Biy did it ever. This combo packs alot of power. It was very easy to set up out of the box, it came with teflon tape, air hose, fittings and an 18 gauge brad nailer. On performance I rate this product a 5. Over all it should really be a 4 1/2 because of a few minor things: 1) The compressor is REALLY loud 2) The saftey goggles were missing in my box (not a big deal) 3) A wrench for the fittings would have been great - other than that the performance on both the compressor and the gun is outstanding.

This is just what the wood Dr. ordered. It's just right for a small woodworking business like mine (small as in just me)
The compressor is farely light and perfectly ballanced which is nice when you have to carry it to three or four different jobs a day. It has plenty of power to run the brad nailer.
The brad nailer is nice also. I like having cases for my power tools,it keeps them from getting damaged. The 1 1/4" capasity is just right for doing finish work and works well for tacking bigger things inplace while your gluing and clamping.
And how can you beat the price for top notch tools.
This combo pack has made my life easyer

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Porter-Cable Product, March 5, 2001

This review is from: Porter-Cable CFBN125A 18-Gauge Brad Nailer Compressor Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this unit last spring. I had 27 windows to install in my house so I also got the finish nailer with it. After 27 windows, trim,..etc it hasn't missed a beat. I will say one thing. This isn't a contracters compressor so it's not intended to run all day long. As to the guy who burned his up I don't have a clue what he did. He may have just gotten a bad unit. Things happen. I wouldn't trade mine for the world.
